Apparently, I get to do it even if it ends with me in a body bag.

Like I said, killing people is a pain in the ass.

Quite frankly, so is this task force. Not a man on it actually cares about Siobhan or any of the Savages' other victims. They're running scared because the big bosses are pissed and threatening to cut their funding. And they don't care if I'm collateral damage. They did the math. One dead officer is an acceptable risk in their estimation, especially when it's one they don't particularly like. Especially if it means soaking in the fruits of my labor after the fact.

Well, fuck that, them, and everybody but their mamas.

I'll take care of my damn self.

"Fine," I growl, giving in to the inevitable. "I'll do it." I shift my gaze around the room, meeting the eyes of every motherfucker in here. "But just so we're clear, once I close this case, I'm done. I'm out. Don't ask me for shit else. You can take your task force and shove it up your asses."

No one says anything. No one even blinks.

I think the bastards are actually relieved to be rid of me.

Some brotherhood, I think. Some fucking brotherhood.
