I nodded. The foyer was massive, with a big staircase up the middle, and two hallways off the main floor on both sides. He led us to the left and into a sitting room full of books and some furniture. “You can exit to the aisle out the back door.”

I nodded and walked to the back door to see chairs set up on both sides of an aisle fifty yards from the door. The chairs filled up as more people walked over. “Ok thank you.”

“Do you need anything else?” He asked.

I shook my head. “No.”

He turned and left. Mom walked over, putting her arm behind mine. “You good?”

I looked at her and nodded. I paced the room, rolling my zippo across my fingers while mom and Arturo sat in the chairs, talking. I had no idea where Stefano had disappeared to. Finally, a woman came in the outside door. She had a headset on, and a clipboard, probably a wedding planner. “It is time.”

“Are there any bridesmaids I should be walking with?” Arturo asked.

The woman shook her head. “No, there are no bridesmaids. You can just both walk your mother down the aisle to her seat, and then you can stand at the end of the aisle with him. Are we all good?”

“Yes.”

We walked out, soft music playing. Arturo and I walked mom down the aisle and to her seat up front, Stefano was already there and waiting with a scowl on his face. I took my place by the preacher, Arturo next to me. He reached up, squeezing my shoulder as the music changed to the wedding march. I turned and looked as she started down the aisle on her father's arm. Fighting back the laugh building in my chest as gasps rolled over the crowd. She had on a long black dress, a bouquet of black and red roses in her hand, and a black veil down her back. I did have to admit that I liked the statement she was making. Good for you, I thought to myself. Stick it to them. She did still look sexy. It hugged her curves in all the right places. All the black made her green eyes stand out. Her eyes scanned up from the ground to look at me. I couldn't help but smile at her. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all. If we don’t kill each other that is.
