He sighed. "That explains it."
"Who are they?"
"Gabriele and dad used to be friends I guess. Both came up in the biz under Vigo Agusti. It's all just rumors, I don’t know the whole story but people say it was about a woman. She ended up picking Gabriele and dad was not happy about it. I guess they have kind of had this unspoken feud ever since. Gabriele split off and started his outfit."
I nodded and we walked into the house, then into the sitting room. Mom was reading a book, she looked up and smiled. Her smile quickly faded as she stood up and ran over to us. Grabbing both of us by the chin. "Seriously?"
"Mom come on, you know we have to train hard. I have to get Luka ready."
She shook her head. "I hate this."
I smiled. "At least I got some shots in this time. I am getting better."
She looked at me with a smile. "Am I supposed to be happy about that?"
"Yeah, I have to learn to protect myself. I am the second son of Stefano Rossi. People expect certain things out of me."
"A ten-year-old should not be worried about such things."
"He has to learn sometime. This is our world mom, you know that." He leaned over kissing her on the cheek. "And don’t say anything to dad. It won't change anything. He'll just be mad and take it out on you."
"No promises."
"Mom please?" I begged. "He is already in a bad mood, just play nice tonight."
"What is wrong with him this time?"
"Something about the Volante's."
Her face paled. "What about them?"
"We don’t know," Arturo replied.
She nodded. Kissing my forehead. "Okay, I will play nice tonight for you. I think I will go up to my room and take a little nap before dinner." She rested her hands on both of our cheeks. "Promise you will both take good care of each other always, no matter what. That you will always have each other's backs before anyone else."
"We promise Mom." We said in unison.
She smiled and nodded. "You're my good boys." She gave us both a kiss on the cheek before leaving the room. We walked to the door, watching her walk up the stairs.
"She seems sad."
Arturo nodded.
