The small hiccup happened during Ryot and Rogue’s fight, they both fought hard, but neither was going to give up. Things started to get dirty, and the fight had to be declared a draw, and the footage will be reviewed later to determine a winner.

I bounce on my toes, Cuyler normally comes in and helps me hype up, but tonight I told him to go find his girl. Emory walks into the change room and looks me up and down with a frown.

“What?” I ask him.

“You know who you’re fighting?” He asks.

“I presumed it would be no one since Sax is out of the running.”

He laughs. “Do you really think your father would leave the main event as a win by forfeit? Nope, him and the rest of the suits voted and decided that in a case like this, they would look over previous Alphas that had a similar point score as you and bring them in from the university.”

“Fuck, well there goes my plan to throw the fight.”

Emory snorts. “Your father is always one step ahead.”

I run my hand through my hair. “I can’t fight, I don’t want Cyrus to think that she is my prize or a possession.”

“I guess that means you really have no choice, especially if her father has a business deal on the table and someone else is in the running.”

“He doesn’t,” I seethe, trying not to give anything away. Emory raises a brow at me.

“What are you up to?” He questions.

“Fuck, how much do you want your freedom, because if you run your mouth, you will fuck everything.”

“If you are handing me a way out, I will kiss your ass and you know that.”

“Fine,” I lean in and whisper. “I’m working with Mitchel to bring dad down tonight, and I need a message to Mitchel ASAP. If you screw me over I will ruin you. Unlike dad who keeps you around, I will send you packing along with your illegitimate child.”

His eyes go wide, and I realise I just spilled the fucking beans about his child. “Yes, I know about you screwing a student and her being knocked up.”

Panic washes over him, clearly at the impending thought of the child. “She’s pregnant?”

“Yep, focus for a second. Tell Mitchel it needs to happen when my fight starts. That gives him five fucking minutes.”

Emory nods. “And make sure my father has no idea what you’re doing.”

“Fine, but you owe me.”

He leaves, and I hope that I didn’t just mess everything up. He could very well go to my father and tell him that I’m working with Mitchel, and if he were Sax, I would be a little more concerned.

The minutes tick down, and I hear my damn intro song start. I push through the doors and the crowd goes nuts. I don’t even recognise half of the faces here tonight, but I do see Cyrus, Lux, and Luna all standing as close to the ring as they can. I made sure a few of the younger Alphas not fighting tonight are surrounding them at all times to make sure Cyrus is safe. I know Lux can take care of herself, and as for Luna, she’s there because Cyrus cares about her.

I duck under the rope and stand in the corner, Emory comes to my side. “It’s done, but flip me off or something because your father is watching.”

I do as he says, and he laughs, but I snarl at him to really make it believable. I find Cyrus, and she smiles at me. With my positioning, my back is to the VIP area, and I mouth “I love you” to Cyrus, and she does the same back.

Here goes nothing, it all comes down to tonight, and I wonder if it will all work out in my favour. Malcolm Briar is always ten steps ahead and that has me uneasy, but I have to trust that Mitchel has his own contacts that he trusts to get this done.

My opponent reaches the ring and smirks. I remember him, he was an Alpha two years ago. He wasn’t on the top, but his skills in the fights were good. I don’t remember what happened in his final fights, but if he is standing here, he clearly didn’t win.

He starts mouthing off the second his song finishes, taunting me about taking my girl, and I try to let it slide off as I grit my teeth together.

The guy with the microphone introducing us stands in the middle of the ring, but before he can say anything, I walk over to him and steal the mic. He doesn’t object, and he would be stupid if he did.

“I wanted to have a few words, as you all know I’m Diesel Briar, but what you all don’t know is I have no intention of fighting tonight.”

The crowd goes nuts, and I look up at my father who is standing against the balcony, his eyes throwing flamed daggers at me. “I don’t owe any of you an explanation, and this whole fighting to marry or make lifelong ties with families is a load of shit. I can’t deny that in previous years it was fun, and I’m not stupid enough to believe it will stop, but I’m taking a stand. I love my girl, and she is not for me to win in a fight. Anyone who has bet on this fight, I suggest you get your money back and quickly before you lose your shot.”
