We both shower and much to his disgust, Diesel puts on the Disney princess pyjamas and the unicorn slippers. I even manage to get a picture of him when he isn’t looking.

“So this is what it’s like to come home to a beautiful girl every night, she makes you wear stupid matching clothes.”

I laugh at him. “Yep, and now we will be all grown up and watch some Netflix and order in some takeout. I can’t wait to add a few small touches to the place to make it feel like ours.”

“All this furniture is ours. I hired a decorator to have it all ready for us.”

“You’re amazing.”

“I have a surprise for you. Close your eyes.”

I place my hands over my eyes, and Diesel leads me somewhere. When he says to open them, my eyes water. He has set up a picture of Zeke and I, along with some other mementos on a cabinet in the main living area.

“How? When?”

“I took his mother’s number from your phone and called her, she came over and did this for me. I wanted to honour his memory in our house because I know that losing him was one of the worst days of your life, but he is and always will be the love of your life, even though he will have to share that title with me.”

The tears fall, and I throw myself in his arms. “He is the only man you will ever have to share my heart with. You helped me piece together all my broken pieces and put them back again. You’re my ride or die, my future. I love you, Diesel Briar.”

“I love you too, future Mrs. Briar.”

Diesel gets down on one knee and opens a small box with the most beautiful diamond ring.

“It’s the diamond from the ring Zeke was going to give you. His mum gave me the idea. Cyrus Jamison, will you do me the honour of marrying me?”

“Yes,” I whisper looking at the ring, it’s not as fancy as the ring Zeke was giving me, this one is classy yet not over the top. Diesel stands and spins me around in his arms.

“I wasn’t planning on asking until tomorrow. I had it all planned, but I couldn’t resist with us in our Disney pyjamas and unicorn slippers. I just couldn’t go a moment longer without calling you my fiancée.”

Who would have thought that the boy I was blackmailed into annoying and being nice to, all in one semester, would be the man that could fix me in ways I never could myself. One I wasn’t sure I could even trust all those months ago when we broke up, and here I am, standing in our lounge room, in pink Disney princess flannelette pyjamas and massive unicorn slippers, next to a memorial he made for Zeke with a ring on my finger.

I doubt we will get married anytime soon, we have spoken about it a few times over the past few months. We might have had a rocky start, but the timing is perfect, and I’m happy and can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him by my side.
