“Ah, fuck. The boss is here,” Pete joked. “Better put the blow away.”

“You better not be doing that shit in my office,” I snapped.

“Just fucking with you, Stefano.” Pete Morelli dragged a hand through his dark hair and grunted. “Chill.”

“They know I hate drugs,” I told Ava before walking over to them, a frown in place. “And these assholes like to fuck with me.”

She crept up beside me, her voice a whisper. “Doesn’t your family sell drugs?”

I snapped my head at her, eyes narrowed. “Fuck, no. Who told you that?”

What a way to insult a guy? I mean, for fucks sake. Like my family would ever reduce ourselves to that low-level garbage.

Ava bit her lip, looking cute as fuck as she struggled to find the right words. “I just thought…”

She thought all Mafia families sold drugs.

“Nope, we have legitimate businesses, bellezza.” I rubbed my palm over her tight ass and squeezed. “That’s street shit.”

Ava tipped her head back and laughed. “Yeah, that’s why you need me to launder your money. Because you’re so legit.”

“Oh, this is the girl?” Vinnie had a deep smoker’s voice. “The smart one.”

I hooked my arm around Ava. “Yep. This is my girl. And if I see any of you sleazy motherfuckers even look at her wrong, I’ll put a bullet in your skull.”

She leaned into my embrace and gave me a cute smile. “Are you going to introduce me to your friends?”

“I was getting there, woman.” I wrapped my arm around her middle and held her back against my chest. “This is Ava Vianello.” I pointed at a big man with dark brown hair. “And that’s Vinnie Corallo.”

Her eyes widened, so I figured she’d heard of Vinnie “The Knife” Corallo. People whispered about how he was as sharp as a knife and could kill with just as much skill. I needed men like Vinnie on my side.

“You already know thismezza sega.” I nodded at Tony and laughed. “Tony Natale.”

“Who the fuck are you calling a lightweight?” Tony growled.

It was a joke because Tony was massive. Like a brick wall of muscle. He protected Ava each week when she collected the money from the clubs.

“You remember Pete Morelli, right?” I moved my hands to her waist and rubbed her hipbone with my thumb. “Nico said he took you to a party at his apartment.”

She waved to Pete. “Hey.”

He tipped his head at her. “Sup, girl.”

“Don’t say sup to my woman. Show some fucking respect. You sound like a gang member when you talk like that.”

Pete laughed. “My bad, Stef.” Then he looked at Ava with a mischievous look. “I was only joking. Apologies, Miss Vianello.”

She elbowed me in the arm. “You don’t have to get all possessive of me.”

I bit her neck, my hand inching down her right thigh. “Baby, you’re mine to possess.”

“Stefan, not in front of an audience.”

“Still shy, I see. We’ll break you in eventually.”

“We got an issue,” Vinnie said with a sour expression. “Johnny Z poached a few of the girls. He’s got them working over at The Red Lounge.”

Johnny Z was short for John Zabatino. He ran a small operation on the other side of Atlantic City and owned strip clubs and bars. He didn’t have the power of my family or even the Vitales, but he was still a constant pain in my ass.
