I gritted my teeth. “Thatpompinaro. It’s always fucking something. Which girls did he take?”

“Carrie, Tonya, and Quinn,” Vinnie said.

“They’re our best earners,” Pete added. “We’re losing thousands a day they’re not here.”

I snapped my fingers. “Tone, take Ava to The Monella Club and meet us at Johnny Z’s place.”

Tony nodded. “Sure thing, boss.”

Ava spun around to look at me. “Why do you have to leave so soon? I just got here and haven’t seen you in days.”

“Baby, I gotta go knock some heads around.” My knuckles grazed her cheek. “And you don’t need to be there for that. Besides, I can’t have any of Johnny Z’s crew finding out about you.”

I moved across the room, unlocked the safe, and dumped wrapped bills into a duffle bag. Tony took it from my hand and slung it over his shoulder.

Ava inched toward the door, and I grabbed her from behind and pulled her curvy body against mine. “Think about me when you’re playing with Angelo,” I whispered against the shell of her ear.

She tipped her head back and smiled. “Maybe I’ll ask Angelo to film us so you can watch it later.”

“My bad girl.” I kissed her cheek and then shoved her toward Tony. “I won’t be home until morning. So don’t wait up.”

ChapterThirteen

AVA

Ikneeled on the floor beside the elevator five minutes before nine. Dante exited his apartment one minute later. Of course, he was early. Bossman valued punctuality.

Keeping my head down, I stared at his expensive Italian leather dress shoes.

He hit the button on the wall, and the doors opened. “Get up, little slave. It’s time to work.”

I rose from the floor, and Bossman pushed me inside the elevator. Dante got in beside me, ignoring me until we were on the ground floor. He acknowledged the guards posted up at various places down the corridor. Because this was their family’s private entrance, there were always at least five men on duty.

Dante stopped when we reached the entrance to the casino and turned to look at me. He gave me one of his usual arrogant smirks, then dropped a set of car keys into my palm. “Take the Ferrari over to the dealer. Tony will bring you back to the Portofino.”

I clutched the key, staring at him in shock. “Are you serious? You want me to do errands for you?”

He tipped his nose up at me. “What else would I do with a slave?”

I was an idiot for thinking it would be sexual. Dante made it crystal clear he wanted nothing from me. I wasn’t even allowed to touch him without his permission.

“Okay,” I groaned. “I’ll be back soon.”

Bossman walked away without another word. Straight and to the point. He wasn’t a man who wasted time on small talk.

The Luciano brothers parked their cars by the loading dock when they didn’t want to go through valet. So I knew where to find Dante’s gorgeous Ferrari Portofino. It was a red convertible that cost a pretty penny but looked like it was worth every cent.

I didn’t have a damn clue how to drive his car. So when I saw Tony standing beside Pete Morelli, I breathed a sigh of relief.

“You look like you’re going to piss yourself.” Pete laughed as he sauntered over to me. “I’d be afraid to drive Dante’s car, too, if I were you.” He opened his palm, wiggling his fingers with a cocky grin on his face. “Hand over the key, beautiful. I’ll take it from here.”

“If you’re here to deal with Dante’s car, why did he send me?”

“To test you.” Tony crossed his big arms over his chest, making him appear even larger. “He likes to do that to new people.” He opened the back door to a black G Wagon for me as Pete got into the Ferrari.

I sat in the back and watched Pete peel away from the building. Dante probably would have killed him for that. But Pete didn’t strike me as someone who followed orders well.

Bella had mentioned the possibility of marrying Pete. I could already see the two of them challenging each other. She was a good match for him. Though, I wasn’t so sure he was ready for her. My best friend wasn’t what people expected.
