It wasn’t.

Luca removed the ring from the box, now holding my left hand. “You can only marry one of us on paper, but you’ll still be Mrs. Salvatore.”

“What about the wedding?”

“You will marry all four of us, legal or not.”

“We don’t care about that kind of shit,” Bastian said to reassure me. “You’ll still be our wife.”

“Did you ask my grandfather for his permission?”

“We don’t need it.” Damian snickered. “He owes us too much to say no. And it’s not like you’re going anywhere, Pet.”

My eyes shifted to Luca. “I’m guessing on paper I will marry you?”

He nodded. “So what do you say, baby girl?” Luca licked his lips as he looked up at me. “Will you marry us?”

A rainfall of tears soaked my cheeks and shirt as I got on my knees in front of them and let Luca slip the ring onto my finger. “Yes. I’ll marry all of you.”

Alex said yes.Finally. I knew she would be my wife eventually, but she was so damn stubborn. Before the doctor arrived at the house, I met with my brothers. I told them about my plan to ask Alex to marry me.

Bastian laughed and said she would say no again. Damian didn’t have an opinion. He was too sick with worry over possibly being a father. Not like he didn’t know the risk each time he came inside her. It was Marcello who had suggested we propose as a group. He knew her best of all and was right. She wanted to hear the words from each of our mouths.

After dinner, we changed out of our suits and into khaki shorts and polo shirts. We wanted to take Alex on a date, but we couldn’t risk someone grabbing her in town.

Alex sat cross-legged in the middle of the mattress, dressed in a low-cut pink tank top with no bra and black spandex shorts. Her nipples poked through the thin fabric, the hardened points begging me to notice. She looked up when we entered her bedroom, smiling at us as she patted the space beside her on the bed.

I placed a black satin box in front of her. She peeked up at me, eyes wide with wonder, a smile in place as she glanced at the box.

“What’s this?”

I slid the box across the duvet until it tapped her fingers. “Open it and find out.”

She flipped the lid, unable to contain her excitement, beaming with delight at the sight of the diamond and sapphire necklace worth as much as a luxury car.

Only the best for our girl.

Alex lifted the necklace from the box. “My birthstone? But my birthday isn’t until September. What’s the occasion?”

I took it from her hand and draped the gems around her neck. “This necklace belonged to my mother. She would have loved for you to wear it.”

Her lips parted in surprise. “Thank you, Luca. It’s beautiful.”

“And from all of us,” I told her.

She hugged Marcello next, then Damian and Bastian.

I extended my hand to her. “We want to show you something. It’s important you keep this secret and only use it in an emergency.”

Her eyebrows knitted together. “Like life or death important?”

I nodded. “If it comes to that, we need to prepare you.”

She dug her teeth into her bottom lip. “Luca, you’re scaring me.”

“Don’t be afraid, Cherry.” Bastian stroked her cheek with his fingers, and she leaned into his touch. “We’ll protect you from the monsters.”

Alex tugged on her top. “You said to get comfortable. Is what I’m wearing okay?”
