Sometimes, Bastian couldn’t reach me. I was too far gone, consumed by the bloodlust. Like the night I choked Alex and almost killed her. I still hated myself for hurting her, for making her fear me. But she no longer trembled when she saw the darkness inside me.

Alex climbed out of the car and turned her head to look at me. “Does anyone live here?”

“No.” I gripped her elbow and steered her toward the front door. “We use it as a safe house.”

She flicked her blond curls over her shoulder. “How many of those do you have?”

I rolled my shoulders. “A lot.”

She narrowed her eyes at me.

“I’ve lost track,” I admitted. “We have safe houses across the United States and in every country we do business.”

Her right eyebrow rose an inch. “To kill people?”

“Depends on the situation.”

“While you were in art school,” Luca cut in, “There were a few months when we had to move between safe houses to keep the drama from our illegal businesses out of Devil’s Creek.”

Drake emerged from the lobby, dressed in dark jeans and a black fitted tee. The Knights had been running on fumes for the past week. None of us would get much sleep until we handled the threats against my family.

“I prepared the room for you.” Drake looked at me. “How do you want to handle them?”

“Wait!” Alex’s hand shot into the air. “Are you going to kill my mother?”

“We need to get information out of her first,” Luca said. “Then you can do whatever you want with her.”

Her mouth widened as her gaze flicked between us. “I don’t know what I want.”

Aiden clutched her shoulder. “If you can’t do it, I will.”

“Not if I beat you to it,” Luca challenged.

Alex waved her hands between them. “Okay, can we not talk about killing people like it’s normal?”

“This is business.” Luca crossed his arms over his suit-clad chest. “We will eliminate anyone who poses a threat to our family.”

“But…” Alex bit her lip, thinking over her response, before Luca cut her off.

“Your mother handed you to Lorenzo for money.” He uncrossed his arms and invaded her space, towering over her. “She didn’t give a fuck about you when you were born, and she doesn’t give a fuck about you now. She’s hurt all of us. And if we let her live, she will continue to pose a threat.” His palm moved to her stomach. “You have a child to think about, Drea. I wouldn’t put it past your mother to hurt our child.”

“The baby is yours?” Aiden asked.

Alex looked at me. “No, it’s Damian’s.”

For a split second, Aiden looked disgusted. But when he saw the murderous expression on Luca’s face and mine, he forced a smile.

Drake turned his back to us. “Follow me.”

We walked down a dimly lit hallway and upstairs to the apartment. Drake pushed open the door to reveal Savanna and her accomplice tied to chairs at the center of the living room. He’d even spread out an array of torture devices for me on the kitchen island.

Alex froze when she saw her mother, who had aged little over the years. They could have passed as sisters, with their long blonde curls, pale blue eyes, high cheekbones, and full lips. Savanna was thinner than Alex with bony arms and legs, zero definition in her body.

When Alex first moved to Devil’s Creek, she mirrored Savanna’s lithe frame. You could tell her mother had starved and abused her. There was something inside her soul that spoke to mine.

I tapped Alex on the back, forcing her to move into the room. I wasn’t sure if she could even do this, but I wanted to give her the chance to get her revenge. There was nothing I wanted more than to cut her mother into tiny pieces for permanently scarring our girl.

Savanna tried to yell, but with the bandana covering her mouth it muffled her screams. Her companion knew better than to fight us. He slumped to the side, his face bruised and dripping blood.
