Alex lowered the sundress over her head, and with Damian’s help, rose from the sand. She bit the inside of her cheek, staring up at me. “Should I be scared?”
“We’ll get Drake back.”
I hope.
I prayed Drake could handle interrogation long enough for us to rescue him. All Knights go through a rigorous interrogation process during initiation, everything from waterboarding to being burned with a blowtorch.
Not for the faint of heart.
I stroked her cheek with my thumb. “We’ll find Drake.”
She cocked an eyebrow at me. “Alive?”
I nodded. “That’s the goal.”
Alex placed our hands on her baby bump as we stared into the expanse of the water. “I wish we could stay here forever.”
“Me, too,” we whispered in unison.
