I shake my head. “This is new to me. Maybe it’s a recent change.”

The area is beautifully decorated, with shimmering material stretching across the ceiling, and behind it, fairy lights. It’s designed so that the overall effect is that of an inky night, the stars pinpricks of light.

The table is dressed in a midnight blue tablecloth and the silver tableware and white crockery is in stark contrast to the design. Red roses adorn the centerpiece.

“This is a color scheme I’m going to remember for my weddings,” I say. “Everyone always goes for pastel colors because it’s so romantic, but this is striking.”

“I agree. It’s fit for a romantic celebration.”

She sips wine from a glass. A waiter appears with a penguin waistcoat and pours wine into my glass, too.

When the men arrive, we can hear the fuss from the streets.

“That’s them,” I say with a grin.

Since Brett transferred to the California Golden Bears, he can’t go anywhere without fans fawning at his feet. I don’t know what his fame was like in Hawaii, but it took some getting used to when he just arrived. He complains about it sometimes, but I know secretly he loves the attention.

When the men walk in, they look dashing in their suits and ties. Brett’s tie is silver, and Marc’s is blue. It’s like they dressed to match us on purpose.

“Hello, beautiful,” Brett says, kissing me before he takes his seat. “Sorry you had to wait. It’s a nightmare out there.”

“We should use the service entrance next time,” Marc offers.

Brett shakes his head and I shoot Stacey a knowing look. Brett definitely enjoys the attention he’s getting. And he deserves it. His football career reached an all-time high. Since he started playing for Cali, they’ve won every game they played. Maybe it’s a fluke, but I like to think I’m dating the best football player of all time.

“How was work?” Brett asks me. “Did that bride come to see you?”

I nod. “She did, and I think it’s going to be a big one. Five hundred guests and a lot of A-listers are going to attend.”

“Right up your alley,” Stacey says. “You know just how to handle the paparazzi.”

I nod. “I’m starting to understand how they work.”

“Maybe you should shift your focus to celebrity weddings,” Marc suggests.

“What?”

“I think that’s a great idea,” Stacey says. “Since you know what it takes to keep your slate clean, how to avoid the paparazzi, and keep things under wraps. Why not?”

I try to think of a reason, but I don’t have one. Why not, indeed?

“I already have your first customer,” Brett says.

“Who?” I ask.

Stacey and Marc watch Brett, too.

He stands and goes down on one knee.

I stare at him when he pulls out a black velvet box and opens it to reveal a sparkling ring.

“Yours,” he says. “Babe, you’re the light of my life. I’ve loved you for a long, long time, and I don’t want to do this without you. You’re my biggest supporter, my number one fan. You’ve stood by me through thick and thin. I don’t only want you at my side as my girlfriend, but as my wife. Jenna, my sweetheart, will you marry me?”

I can’t believe my ears. I look up at Stacey with a shocked expression. Her grin tells me what I need to know.

“You knew he was going to ask me!”

She giggles. “He needed a bit of help, so I volunteered.”
