My eyes well up with tears when he talks like that. I don’t know how to explain to him how much David would have appreciated Mason stepping up like this.

I don’t know how to tell him what it means to me that our family is whole again after we’ve been hurt and broken for so long.

“You see yourself in the picture that long, huh?” I asked jokingly, trying to get rid of my tears.

Mason nods. “I do. You’re my forever, Natalie. And this…” He stands and fishes in his pocket, producing a black box. My jaw drops when he opens it. “Is a symbol that I’m here for it all.” I stare at the ring.

Mason chuckles sheepishly. “I actually had a whole thing planned with a three-course meal and the ring along with dessert, but I can’t wait. I love you, Natalie. And I want to be here for all of it. The good, the bad, the ugly. The sadness, the happiness. The tears, the joy. And a whole bunch of kids running around. What do you say? Give it a go with me? Be my wife.”

The tears roll over my cheeks now.

“Of course, I’ll marry you,” I say and smile through my tears.

Mason grabs me and kisses me, and we’re crying and laughing.

When he finally slides the ring onto my finger, it’s perfect.

Everything about Mason and my life with him is perfect.

I love him more and more every day.

And I can’t wait for our new adventure together.
