Page 3 of Burning It Down

I quickly undressed and turned the water on as hard as I could. Then, I stood under the scalding water and let it wash over me, rinsing away any remnants of his touch. I finally washed my hair and body and got out of the shower.

I dried off and went to sit on the bed. There was a TV, and I turned it on, searching for something mindless to watch. I found The Office and settled back on the bed. Soon there was a knock on the door.

It opened, and both Billy and Charles stood there. Charles was holding a tray with a bowl that looked like soup.

“Is it okay if we come in? We brought you something to eat.” Charles held up the tray before walking further into the room.

“Yeah,” Billy said, “Charles cooked for you.”

Charles rolled his eyes. "To be honest, I just opened a can of soup and heated it up. I had to laugh; the two men were totally adorable. They were very different, but you could tell they were very close.

Charles put the tray down on the bed and stood there. “Do you need anything? Are you okay?

I nodded. "I'm okay. I don't really feel like being alone, though. I'm just nervous. It's been too quiet."

Billy chimed in. “Have you heard from him?”

I shook my head. “No, I don't even have my phone. He has it.”

Charles nodded his head. "Okay. We can stick around." He sat on the bed next to me, pulled the tray closer, and Billy sat in the chair by the bed.

He took out his phone for a minute and typed something quick before putting it back in his pocket. "I told security to watch out for anything suspicious. But, don't worry, you're safe here."

“Thank you very much. You have no idea what that means to me.”

The three of us were quiet while I ate my soup and we watched The Office. They were very comfortable to be around, and I could get used to it. I could even see myself with both of them.

But that sort of stuff didn't happen, did it?

BILLY

Isabella was adorable and very sexy, and I saw her as nothing but trouble.

We sat with her until she fell asleep and left her bedroom.

“You know, Billy, I think she could be the one.”

I stopped in my tracks and turned around to look at my best friend. "What the fuck are you talking about? The one who's what?" I had no idea what he meant by that, and then it hit me. "Dude. We literally just met her. She has a boyfriend. And now you think she's the one."

He shook his head. “She doesn't have a boyfriend. She broke up with him. I do think she’s the one.”

I threw my hands in the air. "But she's been with him forever. She has a history with him. I know he hurts her. But you know how women are. You know many of them go back to their abusers."

Charles ran his hands through his hair and shook his head. “No, I think she's the one.”

"Well then, buddy, we're just going to agree to disagree. I have some phone calls to make, and I'm going to bed because this night was too eventful. So I stormed off to my bedroom and shut the door.

I shook my head again. I loved Charles, and he was my brother, even though we weren't blood-related. He was my family, and I would do anything for him, but sometimes he was too romantic and kind and overthought with his heart.

I made a couple of phone calls and took a shower before I settled into bed, and when I closed my eyes, I could see Isabella's face. She had the most gorgeous hair and brown eyes. I kept thinking about them looking up at me while on her knees in front of me.

Maybe Charles was right.

I rolled over and punched the pillow. I'm an idiot. He isnotcorrect.

For as long as I could remember, Charles and I shared women. It was just what we did. We did everything together, and we shared everything, including women.
