“Yeah?”

She looks up, meeting my eyes.

I want her to be mine. I want to protect her from anyone and everyone. I want to be the one she comes to when she needs something. I want to be hers…

“What?” She cocks a brow.

I shake my head. “Nothing.”

I used to see Soul Reaper Stations and was amazed. My eyes would be wide, and I’d be bouncing around, holding my father’s hand. He’d laugh at me and introduce me to those who work under him and their hounds.

From then on, I’ve always wanted to be a reaper. I want to be just as good as my father was.

Now, seeing Soul Reaper Station a few streets from the restaurant, I still feel the same way. All the feels hit me like a brick way and butterflies fill my stomach. My father’s vision has me on edge. He was cryptic with his vision, but I feel like he might know what is in store with me. One of the tasks is becoming a Soul Reaper to have a team that I can trust. My father accomplished a lot when his hellhounds were alive, and they were loyal to him.

My eyes run over the dark building that looks like a metal cube with a huge, black metal gate surrounding it. It’s mainly like that because demons have tried blowing it up. It’s made to completely shut down and lock everyone in or out. It has the same gothic feel as the academy does.

“Stop him!” a heavy voice yells and doors slam open just as we walk past the opening of the gate of the station.

Ledger and I both turn just as someone pushes us apart. Magic shifts around me, making the whole world spin like a top. Whatever supernatural being just touched me is powerful. I reach out for something other than the ground, but I can’t even tell which way the earth is. An arm wraps around my waist and chains clank loudly as they fly past my head.

“I got him!” the same voice says, and it happens to belong to the person who is holding onto me.

My palms press against a hard chest as I try to push away. The arm wraps tighter around me, causing me to press against the person more. My hands reach up and grab his shoulders, trying to steady myself. “Who the fuck—what the fuck—”

“Calm down,” he whispers softly. “He’s a vitiligo demon. You can’t stand by yourself.”

“And yet,” Ledger growls from somewhere on my right, “I-I have no one holding me up.”

I blink, finally seeing shapes clearer. The world around me is slowly stilling itself. Within minutes, I can see a handsome Soul Reaper staring down at him.

“Hi,” he whispers, pink eyes scanning my face. His fangs on both the top and bottom of his teeth flash at me when he smiles. His short hair is just as powder pink as his eyes, falling against his forehead. A fleshy pink scar runs over his tan face, from cheek to cheek. He straightens us, pulling me up with his free hand. I grab onto his shoulders once again, feeling his warmth against me more. I’ve never felt so… helpless with a man before. I need him to stand.

His telum flashes at me, a whip with ropes of chains and spikes on the end. But on the end of his whip, there is an ugly-looking blue demon all tied up.

“Alexis,” the pink-haired fae calls over his shoulder, barely looking away. A large guy is suddenly there, towering over us. “Take him in.”

The angry guy nods and moves, grabbing the telum and taking the demon back in. Only hellhounds can touch their Soul Reaper’s telum. That was his hellhound?

“Are you okay?” the fae says to me.

“I’m great,” Ledger says. “Hands off of the princess.”

The fae looks down and quickly removes his hand from my waist, but I didn’t mind it. He straightens his black tactical suit that fits him well. He’s in a skintight black shirt with a bullet proof vest and tight fitted cargo pants. His pink eyes move up at Ledger. “Oh, hi, Ledger!”

Ledger knows this fae? My eyes stay on the guy. His body is large and wide, almost as much as Ledger’s, and I can see his bulging muscles through his tactical reaper gear. He’s definitely not as tall and isn’t much taller than I am.

“Hi, Ryker,” Ledger deadpans.

The fae, Ryker, is between us. “Oh, are you on a date with Ledger?”

I shake my head. “No.”

“So, you are single?”

I nod.

Ryker leans against the gate that surrounds the station. “Very interesting…”
