Something hard lands on my stomach, earning a groan that wakes me up from my slumber.

“What the—” I grab at the small body on top of me and open my eyes.

“Watch the language!”

I know the voice instantly, causing me to grip him and move him up and plant kisses all over his cheek. Fenric tries to pull back, squealing like a little pig.

Killian throws open the curtains, making my room brighter and making me hiss. My head is pounding, and my eyes burn. “Get up. You slept for, like, sixteen hours and your boyfriends won’t stop fucking texting me.”

“Who?” I scoff.

“Khazon, Ledger, and Hazen. They are all fucking annoying. Khazon tried to stop by, but Dad refused to let him come into your room. What happened to you? One second you were there, the next you were gone.”

I sat up, barely remembering much after I got home. I just remember being in the bathroom looking for my medicine. I had taken them that morning and I know where I put them. But they were gone and Circe took control. “Nothing. Don’t worry about it, buddy.” They know my demon takes more energy than theirs, but they don’t fully know what I am.

Killian looks down. “Still, you might want to text Ledger back before he storms the castle.”

I roll my eyes. “Ledger doesn’t really like me right now.”

“Why?” Fen asks. “I like him, but who’s Hazen?”

I push him on the bed. “Hazen is my hound and Ledger is—”

“Jealous,” Killian finishes.

“No.”

He sends me a look. “The motherfucker is jealous.”

I roll my eyes. “Whatever. I’ll call him.”

Fenric jumps from the bed. “I’m making lunch. You want some?”

“Yes, and it better be really good or we have to resort to eating… you!” I jump after him, but he runs out of the room before I can even grab him.

Killian moves to the door. “How long have you been on these meds?” When I look up at him, he says, “Dad told me… Where did they come from?”

Sighing, I say, “I’ve been on them for about four and a half years, it was after I hurt some people when she took over. A witch doctor made them for me.”

He nods. “And they are safe? They work?”

I nod. “Enchantment chips counteract the pills, so… But other than that, they’ve helped a lot and made me feel normal.”

He punches my arm. “How can anyone like you really be ‘normal?’”

“Get out before I eat you too.”

“With your appetite, I believe it, fatty.”

I kick his ass on the way out and close my door. Grabbing my phone from my nightstand, I see all the messages that I’ve missed from Khazon, Hazen, Amos, and even Ledger. I call Amos and tell her I am fine but don’t give her any other details.

Hazen picks up instantly when I dial his number. “Hi!” He then clears his throat. “Hello. Hi.”

I giggle. “Hi, Hazen.”

“You disappeared… Are you okay?” His voice lowers a bit.

“I’m all right. I went home. I was just exhausted.”
