Hazen: You smell like Ledger. Like… smell like him.

I showered. How can I still smell like him? Jigsaw probably smells like it too. Fuck.

The lady comes back and sets down our drinks. Hazen’s usual is a soda and, of course, Jigsaw’s is black coffee. Fenric slurps his milkshake happily.

“Are you Asura’s hounds?” Fen asks after a sip, looking between the boys.

“No,” Jigsaw says.

“I am,” Hazen says.

Jigsaw sighs and looks up. “You really said yes?”

“Yes.”

I bump Jigsaw a bit, earning a glare. “You could also join this awesome team.”

He rolls his eyes. “No, thanks.”

“Why not?” Fen asks.

Jigsaw looks at me for help. Although I’m curious too, I don’t want to push him. “Just not all hounds are meant to be with certain reapers. You have to pick hounds you trust and ones that trust you,” I answer.

“Do you not trust Jigsaw?”

“Not as far as I can throw him. But if trust is there, sometimes personalities are off and it won’t mash. Jiggie is too uptight for me.”

I hear him scoff.

But Fen nods. “So, you chose Hazen because he’s nicer? Or because he’s handsome.”

Hazen snorts his drink, coughing.

“Watch it, kid.”

We talk until the food comes. Jigsaw barely engages with us, and I can’t help but wonder if I ruined his little date with Hazen. They seem to be close, though, because Hazen can get him to smile easier than I can. I liked seeing Jigsaw smiling.

When he takes off his mask to eat and drink, I can’t help but regret not making Fen sit here. I was curious to see his lips and smiles, but I never get the chance to because as soon as we are done, he put his mask back on.

“Why do you wear that?” Fenric asks, looking up.

“Fen,” I warn.

Jigsaw shrugs. “I’m a hellhound with a toxic power.”

He nods. “Oh, you know, my dad has a toxic hound as well,” Fenric says.

My brows pull. “Huh?”

“Well… he did. His name was Hendricks. Dad told me about him the other day, said that he was one of the best hounds that he had.”

I remember Hendricks, but he died when I was younger. But… Dad always hugged and touched Hendricks and so did I. Something isn’t adding up here. I just nod and follow behind when we go outside. Hazen actually paid for us, and he bought us all waffles, but they weren’t as good as the waffles that Khazon and I used to have, but I appreciate it. It was fun.

As we walk to a nearby park, Fen jumps around, talking to Hazen about something. It makes me smile and bump Jigsaw. “He normally doesn’t have sugar. I think he’s jumping to be as tall as him.”

He just nods.

I let him stay silent as I keep my eyes on Fen. After a few jumps, he grabs Hazen’s hand, jumping around. That’s when Hazen grabs him and throws him onto his shoulders.
