“He would never.” I mean… he did, but I consented. If he ever put his hands on me, he would have to deal with my father and all his demon sons, but worse of all: me.

Inarian’s brows bounce. “Are you sure about that? What about Desi?”

My lips close.

“You think if I were your hound, that your boyfriend over there would be okay with it? With me touching you, being controlled by you?”

“I wouldn’t control. We would be a team.”

“A team that you’re in charge of,” he says. “I’d have to listen to every call you make, even if I don’t agree.”

Something’s different right now…The ground rumbles ever so slightly and the air thickens and tastes…sour. To others, no one else would notice something like this.

“You know what, let’s do the bet. You take me down right now; I’ll be your hound. But you’ll never be able to take me down because you’re just as weak as I think you are.”

I stare down at the ground, trying to tone into my body more.

“Are you ready?”

“No… Wait! Something’s wrong.”

“What?” Inarian asks.

I lick my lips, tasting the acidity in the air. I’ve tasted it too many times before. “What do you smell, what do you taste?”

His brows pull together but he inhales. “Uh, smells like… Jigsaw when he sweats. Tastes like a sour candy.”

One, that Jigsaw comment was yummy. Two, I know this. I move to the window and see it in the distance.

“Asura?”

I twist around, moving to the teacher. “Can I go to the office?”

“Go ahead,” she says, turning her attention to the other students.

I try to walk out normally, but Inarian is close behind. “What is going on?” He grabs my wrist when we make it out in the hall. “What are you doing?”

“What are you doing?” Ledger’s voice comes. “Hands off of her.”

Inarian rolls his eyes and lets me go. “What’s going…” He must have felt what I was talking about because his eyes move to windows in the hall. “What…is that?”

Ledger looks outside. “Asura?”

Gray and lime-green clouds have formed over the front of the campus. Lightning strikes brighten it up. The rain hasn’t stared yet and the air isn’t unbearable yet.

“I think it’s a Hell Storm,” I confess.

Their eyes snap to me.

“The thing that has never happened in the Shadow World?” Amos asks. “The thing we just learned about today?”

“It sounds crazy.” I run a hand through my hair. I’m not even sure what to do. I was thinking of going to the dean’s office and hoping that my father would still be there or if they allow me to call him. My phone doesn’t reach Hell. I shrug, turning the corner. Just as I’m about to, I bump into someone.

A hand steadies me.

I look up to see the tall, almost scrawny Ozias standing there. I half expect him to say something smart mouthed like he normally would.

Instead, he bites his bottom lip, black eyes looking down at me. “Uh, Hell Storm?”
