“Punch any harder and you’ll break it,” a velvety voice comes and makes me turn. Ryker stands at the door in his tactical gear, pink eyes glued on me.

“What are you doing here?” I push my silver curls back before steadying the punching bag.

“I’m on duty protecting the heir. Have you heard of her?” He walks toward me, smirking. The flash of his fangs fills me with butterflies.

I chuckle. “Yeah. Heard she’s really beautiful.”

He shrugs. “I could agree to that.”

Rolling my eyes, I get back to working out.

“Arms up more. Elbows in,” he orders.

“Oh? Telling the heir what to do, now are we?”

He chuckles. “I’m teaching the heir how to fight and protect herself.”

“I am a Soul Reaper and heir that just so happens to be trained in hand-to-hand combat.”

He closes the space between us and looks down at me. I’ve never been short by any means, but it seems like all the supernatural beings are way taller than me. He reaches forward and I let him fix my stance. “Better. Continue.”

I roll my eyes but listen. Ryker stays with me, sitting to the side and giving me comments here and there for tips. After my workout, I grab a cup of water from the cooler and move to sit with him. My eyes fall on the crystal necklace he has on. The symbol looks familiar but at the same time, doesn’t.

His eyes find mine. “It’s a family crest.” Slowly he unclasps and pulls the necklace off, hanging the crystal. I examine it and how it radiates a beautiful blue color.

“It’s beautiful. Did you grow up in the Faelands?” I tease. The Faeland is a place that shouldn’t exist anymore, let alone having people grow up in it.

“Yes,” he deadpans, putting the necklace back on. “Story for another day. I hope.”

I blink, looking down. “Hopefully it’s not bad.”

He shrugs. “Left when I was really young. I don’t remember it really.”

“Did you leave a lot of people behind?”

Ryker nods, licking his lips. “It happens. What’s your story? Why did you leave your homeland?”

I shrug. “Story for another day.”

He smirks, looking at me. His eyes spark a beautiful pink. “Maybe over dinner when… you’re not trying to be killed.”

A smirk crosses my lips. “Are you asking me on a date when you know I have two…”Boyfriends. The word has never come out of my mouth before.

“Go on…”

My eyes narrow. “No.”

He chuckles. “Okay. I’m sure Ledger won’t mind me taking you out on a date.”

I snort. “Sure. If I agree to it.”

“Oh? I thought you were attracted to me. No?”

I shake my head. “Mhm. I don’t think so.” I walk backward into the house. “Thanks, though. I don’t date.”

“In general?”

With a shrug, I go in.
