“I was first. He’s been in Hell guarding the house.”

Amos raises her eyebrows. “Oh? And Khazon was there, too? Wasn’t he? Miya would not shut up about it.”

I roll my eyes. “Khaz said she cheated.”

“Khaz?”

My lips part. Khazon has been my best friend for my entire life. How could I stay mad at him? His words hurt, but being without my best friend hurt more. Two years without him felt like torture, yet it never brought me back to him.

“You forgave him?”

I shake my head. “Back on topic.”

“Oh.” She nods. “She cheated way before you came back. She’s been cheating on him the whole time with a few different guys. It’s kind of sad because I think in a way, he knew, but never left.”

“He seems okay.”

“Yeah. Miya isn’t the best person to date… But Hazen and Ledger?”

“I’m not sure ifdatingis a word I would use.” I roll my eyes as the teacher finally enters the room. Both of us fall silent for the duration of the class. After class, Amos starts up with a ton of questions. I answer almost all of them.

One stuck with me.

“Do you really like them?”

The last month gave me a chance to really get to know them more. Hazen is… kind. Even living in a foster home, he always found ways to take care of others by going to food kitchens on Earth and doing all he could. He worked for a while on Earth until the academy, now it’s too much to go back and forth. He loves Fenric and tends to let him climb and hang on him like a jungle gym.

Fen approves. He told me himself.

Hazen is a huge horror movie fan and loves to cuddle. He loves his peace, and even left a few times to watch the rain in the parking lot. Jigsaw always brought him back in. Hazen has been taking Jigsaw to the same café every Sunday; apparently Jigsaw used to have family meals every Sunday before his family passed. But because Hazen had no money, he took up working a shift or two to pay for their lunch under the table. The café owners like them, but not enough to hire a hound in training fully.

Ledger stays hard and touches me a lot and teases me non-stop. When we spar, we always end up in a sexual position, teasing one another. It always ended with him sleeping with me, and I’m not complaining.

Ledger’s family disowned him after his brother’s death. There have been times where I’ve overheard the conversation with his mother on the phone. Afterward, he’s quieter. I give him space, but like my father, I drop off pie or something to help him a bit. He always comes into my room afterward, laying on the edge of the bed with me and Hazen cuddling.

That’s how he became the small spoon.

I learned a lot about both Inarian and Jigsaw, but nothing they told me. Just small things, like how Inarian hates pickles and gladly gives them up. Or how he likes music but refuses to dance or sing, so he just sits there, listening. It makes me laugh and tease him. He teases me right back.

Jigsaw loves silk, more than anything. He was able to touch it and convince my father to let him take the sheets. My father agreed instantly.

I think my father has a soft spot for him because of Hendrick, his toxic hound. I saw my father patting Jigsaw’s shoulder or talking to him a lot during the duration of our stay.

My father approves of all of them.

“Princess?”

I blink, meeting Ledger’s eyes. The red has become a comfort blanket. We are in the middle of the hall, and I must have zoned out again.

“I think I broke her,” Amos whispers.

I roll my eyes. “I’m fine.”

Ledger straightens with a sigh. He reaches behind his back and pulls out a bag of chips and water from his back; his snack for after training classes. “Here. You might be hungry or dehydrated.”

“He must really like you,” Amos teasing me as she bumps me.

Ledger rolls his eyes.
