But I don’t have time for it.

I roll from the bed, getting dressed in the clothes that I had on yesterday. I have a few minutes to go back to my dorm to get clean clothes but not enough time for breakfast.

Rounding the bed, I push on Ledger’s head again before grabbing my phone.

Ledger growls, and I look down at him. He looks so good laying there drooling on his pillow. Part of me wants to climb back into bed and cuddle right up against him. But I can’t. My nerves about fighting Inarian kept me up all last night.

“Get up,” I mutter, pushing him again.

“No,” he grumbles, turning over and taking up the space I was in.

I roll my eyes. It’s so hard to get him up in the morning. I’ll call him when I get to the dorm and hopefully that will help get him up. I exit his room, seeing the hounds and Khazon at the table, talking.

Khazon’s dark eyes meet mine.Should I say good morning? Have I forgiven him that easily?

“Good morning, princess,” Eames says, sitting back and spreading his legs for me to see his massive bulge.

I roll my eyes. “Fuck off, dog.”

He and Andrew chuckle.

“Heard Jigsaw joined you,” Khazon says.

Joined… what? The group sex?

“Your team, Asura.”

I just nod, fixing my top.

“Well, he’s a good hellhound. You both should work well together.”

“Once you get past his toxic attitude,” Andrew mutters, earning a smack from Eames. “Ow.”

“Asura loves toxic men,” Eames says.

“Oh… then she’s good!”

Khazon sends a glare that shuts them up. “Are you fighting Inarian today?”

I nod. I wait for him to tell me something I don’t want to hear, like Ledger does.

Instead, he says, “Inarian is strong, you deserve to have him on your team. He’s southpaw, so when he steps with his left leg, he’s throwing a punch, but he’s good at tricking people with his right foot. With that being said, never stay on your back too long with him.”

Andrew giggles.

“He has a past of martial arts training with his family and jujitsu. Inarian comes from a long line of hounds that have been training every moment of their lives. He’s smart. He’s cunning, but if you can get him, he’s the most loyal hellhound that you’ll ever have, like Ledger is to me.”

I look at Ledger’s closed door, feeling like I’m betraying him in a way. Ledger doesn’t seem to have closure with what happened. I think deep down, he blames himself for her death… He feels like he could have protected her.

“He’ll get over it.” Khazon says as if he could read my mind.

“Does he feel like Inarian can’t protect me?”

Khazon nods. “Every day… But he can’t stop you. You are a reaper, and he is just a hound.”

My eyes snap to him. “He’s notjusta hound, Khazon.”

He holds up his hands. “Imeanthe has no say in what you do with your team, Asura.”
