Her eyes were so wide.

“You didn’t know? I thought you Googled me.”

“Not…not yournet worth, Mr. Dymon. Just your relationship woes.I don’t care about your money.”

“Good. Canwe go now?”

She nodded her head. “Yes.”

I opened the door for her and closed her inside. When I got in the car, she was squirming in the seat.

“These seats feel so good. Can I drive?”

I chuckled. “If you can drive a stick, sure.”

Her eyes lit up like a Christmas tree, making mine widen too.

“Wait. You can drive a stick?”

She nodded her head with a grin.

Reluctantly, I switched spots with her. I made sure to buckle my seatbelt and pull it tight. When she pushed the start button, the engine roared, making her grin even more.

“Hold on, Mr. Dymon.” She pulled out of the parking lot, nearly giving me whiplash.

I couldn’t lie; theshitwas sexy as hell watching her shift the gears, whipping in and out of traffic.

“So, Mr. Dymon, how many parents have you met?”

“Honestly?”

“You haven’t met any?”

“Just Kia’s. At the hospital.”

She looked at me and then back at the road. “Alright. My dad is going to murder you, then.”

That made me laugh.Nervously, though. “Not when his daughter loves me.”

“And you love his daughter, right?”

“Yes. A whole lot.”

She smiled. “Well, good then. I’m telling you that my dadcan read through a lie so fast that it’s scary. Almost like he should have been a psychiatrist instead of a—oh, God. Please don’t call him a farmer. Like you did me in the beginning trying to insult me.”

“I didn’t try to…”

She glared at me,squinting, making me clear my throat. “Alright, it wasto insult you, kinda. I wanted…needed you to quit, Quinci.I wasn’t going to be my father, messing aroundwith employees, and being a hypocrite, but I couldn’t stop thinking about you. You wouldn’t quit. And you took all my vitriol—”

“Only for you to pay—”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah.Worth every penny, pretty mothafucka.”

She was trying not to blush, but I loved when she did. She was really turning me into someone I didn’t even know I could be.

We rode in silence until we came up to the brick sign that read?Citrus Grove.?She let the windows down and inhaled. In a way, I was happy that we’d decided to come because she’d been missing her family a lot. Being in New York for the last couple of months really messed with her, and even though she didn’t tell me, I felt it. Plus, I’m sure she was tired of lying to her mother and father. Every time they Facetimed, she had to pretend she was getting ready for work, or when her mother noticed her background was different, she’d tell her that she was ata friend’s house. She was tired of lying. Honestly, I hoped that her parentsfuckedwith me because if they didn’t, I was sure she’d stop fucking with me.

I looked around as we rode through her small city.Everything was just as she’d explained it; small and colorful. Everyone was proud of their city because there were flags everywhere representing City Day. There were people littered throughout the streets, and they gawked at the car, many people recording on their phones.
