“Go in there. I gotta take this phone call.”

When she pushed the door open, everyone yelled surprise. The moment she felt me behind her, she turned and looked at me.

“I cannot believe you.”

The room was filled with both of our families and friends. She walked over to her parents and hugged them, probably getting on to them for keeping yet another secret from her.

Her mother still ran the B&B, while her grandmas were still running the B&B at the beach, still in good health, still loud, and Granny Jo still called me Demon. Honestly, sometimes, I envied the closeness of their family, but it made me feel good that this was the type of family my kid would grow up in.

Her father walked over to me and shook my hand. “How you doing, son? Had to walk away from them and that crying and yapping.”

We’d come a long way from him trying to get his sawed-off on me. He wanted to come back to work, so I told him he could, giving him a bigger salary, along with Kemba. Our relationship was great, even better than my father’s and mine.

“I’m doing good. Ready for her to pop. She’s miserable. In just a few months, you’re going to be a grandpa. You ready?”

“No, actually. Especially since Bern won’t stop buying stuff. Even set up a room for the baby, saying that the baby was going to stay with us for long periods of time. She got mad at me when I told her that y’all might not even let the baby stay overnight for a while. Lost her mind, even.”

“Trust me, I know.”

“Okay, guys! Let’s get this party started because I am trying to go to the beach before the sun sets,” Denim announced. “Come on baby mama and Dymon.”

We walked over to the small loveseat and sat down.

She looked at me and smiled. “Now, can you just imagine what your life would be like if you hadn’t paid half—”

“Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It’s not like you weren’t already tempted to begin with.”

“I have your last name, don’t I?”

“And I wouldn’t change that shit for the world.”

I kissed her forehead.

The End.
