I sat my briefcase on mydesk, looking at Diesel, so he’d get out of my seat. He and I switched places.

“Just wanted to see your assistant, since I didn’t get a chance to see her yesterday. How did it go? Are you ready to fire her?”

“I did fire her, but she called Denim, who called me, cursing me out, so I rehired her.”

He squinted. “Why did you fire her?”

“She was late from lunch.”

Hescratched his head. “Late from lunch?”

“Yeah.”

He shook his head and laughed. When I heard the ding of the elevator, I straightened my shoulders.

“Morning, Kia,” she spoke.

When she rounded the corner, I saw she had on a different type of orange shirt, with a different type of black skirt. This one was a little bit shorter than the one she had on yesterday, andthesame Tory Burch flats. From the way she was dressed, I knew she was hiding a body underthem clothes.

Chill, Danger.

“That’s her?” Diesel whispered.

I nodded my head slightly.

“Damn, how old is she?”

“Diesel.”

Sheset her tote on her desk and walked in my office, pushing her shades up on her head, in front of her big, thick ball of hair, that I could see myself gripping tight.

Dymon.

I noticed she had a small paper box in her hand, looked like a Chinese rice box.

“Good mor—Jesus, there are two of you.” She smiled at Diesel before looking back at me. “I only came in your office because your door was already opened, so don’t say anything smart. This is an orangegrown with love from my family grove.”She set the box on my desk and pulled thestring, making it fall open, revealing a perfectly round and great smelling orange.“I wanted to call a truceand hope that we can start over.”

I looked her up and downbefore holding my hand out. “My tea?”

“Your tea?”

“Yes.Where is it?”

“Where is what?”

“My tea,Wenci.”

In my peripherals, Diesel shiftedand had a smirk plastered on his face.

“Mr. Dymon, I wasn’t asked to get any tea.”

“So, you did not receive a text messageto your phone yesterday while… did younot?”

I had to stop myself from telling her that I’d tapped intotheMetri’slive camera feed to see her sitting at the barreading it.I knew she’d be there because I heard her mumble under her breath how she was getting a drink when she left.I took a guess about her going toMetri’s,and there she was.

“I received a message from Unknown. NotMr. Dymon Danger. If you wanted me to get you sometea, then you should have texted me from your phone, not some text app or whatever like a child.”

I stood up. “Like a child? Your job as my assistant is to assist me, whenever I need you to assist me.Day or night.”
