Quinci Everly

Friday

I woke up thanking God it was Friday.I was so happythat it was Friday.I was going to walk to work, but then I got a message from the warden saying that he needed his tea. No please. No thank you. No nothing.Just Wenci, get my tea. When I asked him to send me the money, he acted like he didn’t understand what I was saying. He didn’t even call me Q anymore neither.

The first two days of working here were a fluke.I thought that he was just trying to haze me, but no, he was, in fact, an arrogantasshole, and a very mean man.None of my comebacks were working anymore. The one thingI knew for sure was that he was trying to get under my skin and make me quit. He wasn’t going to get rid of me that easily. No matter what he did, and no matter how hard he tried.

“Shit.”

The Uberdriverhit the brakespretty hard, making some of the tea come out of the top.

“I’m sorry. Thefuckerin front of me slamming on their brakes,” thedriver complained.

“I don’t care.I could replace that drop with my spit.”

He laughed. “Oh, that’s cold-blooded.”

I laughed. “You right. My boss just be getting on my nerves sometimes. A lot of times, and I’m just a week in.”

“Damn. I know the feeling, shorty.I see I’m dropping youoff at Danger Headquarters. What’s that?”

Ilaughed. “In sum, a prison.”

I could’ve told him how I’ve spent nearly a $100on Uber rides all week doing frivolousshitlike getting him tea and picking up his ugly ass suits. Not to mention that he had his owndamndriver who he didn’t let me use. Today, I was going to send his ass an invoice and put a red important flag next to it,and he better pay it.

The closer we got to the building, the more my mood started todwindle, and it wasn’t even eight yet.

“Next stop. Prison,” he announced, making me laugh.

Approaching the building, I rolledmy eyes when I noticed Dymon standing in a trio of men on the steps. His brother, Diesel, was standing above the pair on the third step, and the other man had his back to me.When he came to a complete stop, all three of the men looked at the car, and my eyes widened.

“Oh my God,” I gasped.

Grabbing my things, Dymon’s tea in hand, I exited the car. When Derek noticed me,his facial expression ruined mine.He grabbed the knot in his tie, adjusting it, looking surprised to see me.

“Derek!”

Wrapping my arms around him, he patted my back a few timesbefore I moved away from him.

“Derek, it’s been so long. How are you?I was going to text you when I first made it, but…” I looked at the steps.“I didn’t know if you would want to talk to me.”

Diesel wore a smirk on his face, and I could almost feel the heat radiating from Dymon’s body. He hated being interrupted.

“Wha…what are you doing here, Quinci?I… where…how did you know where I worked?”

I wore a look of confusion. “What do you mean?”

“Is that my tea?” Dymonasked.

Derekcut his eyes to Dymon quickly and then back at me.

“I mean… like, what are you doing here? From Florida?”

“My…tea?”

Ignoring Dymon,I said, “I’ve been working here at DPHQ a week now as his assistant.” I nodded my head at Dymon.

“DPHQ?” Diesel asked.
