The curry tastes extra fantastic tonight. After my second bowl, I continue to pick at the naan bread while making myself comfy on the sofa. Cruz finishes the remaining food then focuses back on his game.

“I’m just gonna lay here next to you and rest my eyes,” I tell him with another yawn following.

“I look forward to your snores.”

I kick him gently. “I don’t snore, you goof.”

Slowly, I begin to doze off. Then, my phone beside me pings with a text notification. I swear to God my sisters are relentless. How they get anything done is beyond me.

My eyes gaze at the screen sleepily, but the unknown number catches my attention.

Unknown:So, we didn’t finish our conversation this morning.

Suddenly, I’m wide awake. My eyes are no longer bleary-eyed, assuming this is Masen. Who else would’ve texted me this about this morning?

Me:How did you get my number?

Masen:I have my ways. Does it bother you?

Me:It doesn’t bother me. It’s just we never talk. I’m not Ava.

Masen:I’m glad you’re not Ava because I swear your sister could talk about absolutely nonsense and still make a drama out of it.

My lips press together to hold back my laughter. Then, I type back quickly with a burst of energy keeping me wide awake.

Me:For once, we agree on something, but we don’t exactly talk like I said.

Masen:Funny that because we talked last night. In fact, you had a lot to say about my father’s member.

Me:You did not just say member.

Masen:I’m trying to refrain from using words that would be deemed offensive, especially to a lady like yourself.

Me:I’m not sure whether to be offended or say thank you.

Masen:So about this morning…

Me:There’s nothing to say besides thank you. I guess I could’ve been really hurt if you weren’t here. And, you know, do something extra stupid like wear heels to work.

Masen:That’s not what I’m talking about.

I let out a heavy sigh, but then Cruz turns his head to glance at me.

“I thought you were tired?”

“Oh yeah,” I mumble. “I just wanted to catch up on my texts because I didn’t have a chance today.

He doesn’t ask anything else, switching his focus again.

I quickly type back, unsure as to why, since it’s clear Masen wants to discuss what happened this morning. All of a sudden, I’m embarrassed by my actions. The key to moving on and making sure it never happens again is to discuss it then close the book on the matter.

Me:What do you want me to say?

Masen:Nothing you don’t want to say, Addison. But perhaps there’s something I have that you want.

Me:And what is that, Mr. Cooper?

I’m half-expecting him to say something dirty. As someone who doesn’t know how to dirty talk, I prepare myself for what he’s about to say, taking a deep breath as I wait in anticipation. Luckily, Cruz is oblivious.
