I lower my head to suppress my laughter but fail miserably.

“Okay, I’m going to give you that. I can’t say I’ve ever experienced a really small one, so perhaps my opinion is skewed.”

Eric moves in closer. “Who are we talking about and what size? Because once, it was so small, I didn’t even realize it was in and just got up and left the room.”

I shake my head in disgust, wondering how we got here, all from an anything-exciting- this-weekend friendly chat.

“Eric, I’m at work. This isn’t the time to talk about my sexual conquest or perhaps lack thereof,” I gently scold him. “But when things start getting hot with some man—”

“I’ll be the first to know?” he asks, too eagerly.

“Sure. Along with Millie, Ava, Luna, Alexa, Jessa, and everybody else who insists on knowing all about my personal life.”

“I smell sarcasm,” he sneers.

I grab both his hands with a grin. “Smart little boy.”

The workday goes longer than expected, so by the time I reach the apartment, I’m utterly exhausted.

My heels come off before I even make it to the front door. As I carry them in one hand, I rummage through my purse for the keys.

Upon opening the door, Cruz is sitting on the couch playing a game on the television.

The boxes are put away, leaving the living room looking clean and organized.

“Hey, Addy, what’s up?” he greets, but his eyes are focused on the screen. “How was your first day?”

I let out a groan, throwing my shoes onto the floor and plonking myself on the couch. Every part of me aches like I’ve run a marathon. I want nothing more than to fall asleep, but I opt for resting my head on the small velvet teal cushion. Then, I realize I’m sitting on the new couch.

“So, everything arrived?”

Cruz turns his head with a frown. “Um, yeah, you were here this morning to accept the delivery, remember?”

And we’re back to this morning.

It’s all a blur. At least the essential parts are a blur.

“Sorry, it’s been a long day.” I yawn, too tired even to cover my mouth politely. “Have you eaten?”

“Yeah, earlier when I was with the guys after training. But I’m down for some curry from downstairs.”

“You order, and I’m gonna take a shower.”

As I walk toward the bedroom to grab my PJs, Cruz shouts my name from the living room.

“How hot do you want it?

“Not burn-my-asshole hot like last time,” I yell back.

Cruz laughs. “Both our assholes were burning from memory.”

Inside my room, the memory of this morning flashes before my eyes. I shake my head, willing my mind to detour to something else. Shower, just take a shower, and the world will feel right again.

The warm water eases my tense muscles, and for a brief moment, I accidentally fall asleep while standing. I awaken when I bump into the wall, still covered in shampoo.

It almost becomes too exhausting even to get out. Finally, I manage only because Cruz yells at the door. The food has arrived.Damn, how long was I in there for?
