“You could say that.”

My hand slaps his arm, prompting him to stop as we stand on the promenade.

“She’s a qualified therapist? So, I’m guessing late twenties, early thirties?”

“Add another decade or two.”

My eyes widen in disbelief. Harrison is an attractive guy. Tall, with an athletic build. His jet-black hair makes his light brown eyes stand out. But this information, wow. Just wow.

“This is all so taboo.”

“Yeah,” he says with a smirk, “but that’s why it’s fun.”

We take the scenic route home to my apartment while I grill him over his adulterous affair. It’s clear he is having fun, and that’s the extent of it. Yet it still amazes me how men are programmed differently, able to void themselves of attachment after being intimate with a woman.

Harrison begins to tell me a story about his professor, all the while I nod because my professor does the same things.

I laugh with him. “Thanks for tonight. It’s good to be able to just chat to someone about the joys and pitfalls of studying psychology.”

“My family and friends just don’t understand. Except for my aunt, of course.”

“Dr. Jenner is a remarkable woman,” I say with pride. “I can’t believe she spent five years living in Africa and volunteering at the orphanages. It really puts life in perspective.”

“Tell me about it. Unfortunately, I guess, we grow up with privileges and don’t have a true understanding of the world until we’re faced with reality.”

We reach my apartment building. As I glance upward, I notice the lights are on.

“You want to come upstairs? My roommate Cruz is home, and he likes to talk about football if you’re up for it.

“Sure, I’m one of three boys. If you didn’t watch football, you hung out with Mom and her book club or my sister and her barbies.”

I knock into his side playfully. “Don’t knock book clubs. They’re a healthy expression of opinions in a common environment.”

Harrison chuckles. “It started off as women’s fiction books, but then a new neighbor joined who just went through a divorce. All of a sudden, the book club is serving cocktails, and they’re drunk while talking about men’s anatomy.”

My hands reach into my purse to grab my keys. I’m unable to find them, distracted by my phone buzzing which I ignore. When I finally find them, I jiggle them in the keyhole and open the door to see Cruz on the sofa sitting beside Masen.

Oh shit.

“Addy,” Cruz greets while eyeing Harrison. “Why didn’t you pick up your phone?”

I force a smile. “Because I was at dinner with Harrison.”

Harrison extends his hand to shake Cruz’s. “You must be the roommate.”

Cruz returns the gesture, but his expression is less than friendly. “Her best friend as well.”

Then, Harrison turns his attention to Masen, doing the same polite thing.

The only thing is—he doesn’t know he is shaking hands with the devil. The devil wearing his sexy glasses and a grey suit which renders me speechless.

I quickly pull out my phone and see the last message on the screen.

Masen:Answer me.

My gaze flicks up when Masen reluctantly shakes his hand without an introduction. His face is anything but inviting, and I’ve seen this exact expression before. If I didn’t know better, I’d think he’s jealous. Why? I have no idea.

“Masen’s my brother,” Cruz mumbles, but his annoyance is evident. “So, why did you guys come back here?”
