“You’ll find your way. Just don’t forget who you are or where you came from.” Collin tries to be serious which is hard when we’re having so much fun.

I wave my hand dismissing the heavy moment, “I might regret this in the morning but tonight let’s drink.”

A server checks in on Lanah and I position myself closer to them holding up two fingers and pointing at the empty Mojito glasses on the table. “Keep them flowing please.”

The server looks at Lanah who gives her a half shoulder shrug and a nod. The server then looks back at me, “Will do.”

I can’t help but roll my eyes. Who does this woman think she is, the purity police?

When our drinks arrive, Collin makes a toast, “To dreams coming true, even under strange circumstances”

I raise my glass, “To a new life.”

We swallow down the drinks and return to the dance floor. The music keeps pumping one hit after another and the crowd continues to grow. We’re surrounded by people, sweat beading on our foreheads, the strobe lights freezing time as we dance and drink.

I don’t know how long we’re dancing before Collin leans in close to my ear, “I love you darling but if we keep dancing this close that stud by the bar is going to think I’m straight.”

“We wouldn’t want that. Go get his digits.” I wink at him and spin around, continuing to dance.

I have so much adrenaline coursing through my veins and my favorite song is now playing. I throw my hands in the air and jump up and down. I’m feeding off the energy radiating from everyone and trying to ignore the man that keeps inching closer. I’m not here to be hit on but it’s par for the course in places like this. I shift to my left pushing deeper into the crowd to make it harder for him to get too close. A tap on my shoulder breaks my trance. I turn around and a large man is towering over me. He grips tightly onto my elbow and drags me across the dance floor.

“Let go of me.” I yell jerking my elbow, but his grip only intensifies.

My eyes dart around the crowd searching for Lanah. She’s supposed to be watching over me and clearly doing a terrible job if she’s letting this oversized stranger man handle me.

The crowd stops moving and stares. No one is moving to do a thing. Embarrassment and fear creeps through me. “I said let go of me. Do you know who I am?”

I don’t know what I expected but so far, I’ve learned my new husband is not someone who is ignored. “I am Mrs. Delgado, and you have no business touching me.”

I look for Collin, but I can’t find him in the crowd either. The large man cracks a smile, but he doesn’t stop dragging me. “Yes Mrs. Delgado, I know who you are.”

“Then you should know my husband will have your head for this.” I bite, trying desperately to hide the fear that continues to grow as we reach a narrow hallway.

The man continues to ignore my rants and forces me through a doorway. Inside the door is an office and a man is sitting in a chair, his back to me.

“Leave her.” He orders and the man releases my elbow and closes the door.

“What is the meaning of this?” Now I’m more pissed than scared.

He doesn’t move. I spin around to make a dash to the door and notice Lanah sitting in a chair along the back wall and Collin in another. His face is pale, and he mouths “I’m sorry.”

I spin back around to the man in the chair. He swivels to face me and my heart jumps to my throat at the angry warning glaring in his eyes and the scowl on his lips.

“Dominic?” I swallow the lump in my throat. He’s pissed which is the exact opposite reaction I had hoped to get from him by this stunt. “What is going on?”

“Well, my wife, this happens to be my club and imagine my surprise to spot you making a scene.”

“I’m not making a scene; we were just having some fun.” I look at Lanah still confused.

“Don’t look at her. She did her job and will be rewarded. You on the other hand should be punished.”

Traitor.

I spin back around. Dominic is now hovering closer to me, anger darkening his eyes. I stumble back. For the first time since this mess began, a slight prick of fear tickles my skin.

“Lanah, make sure her friend gets home safely and take the rest of the night off. Callie will be safe with me.” Dominic barks out the order.

I swallow hard, fighting for the courage to defend my friend. “He doesn’t have to go anywhere. You can’t just order people around like that.”
