Resigning herself to the fact that she wouldn’t get a word in without Brewer’s name circulating until she faced the truth, Delphi rolled her neck, the muscles tight after her time on the back of a bike.

“He’s a really good kisser.” She met her friend’s gaze. “There. Now can we focus on the picnic?”

“Nope. I want to hear every steamy detail. Did he grab your ass? Pick you up? Push you against a door and kiss you until your toes curled?”

Delphi cast a curious glance at Jupiter. “Asking from personal experience?”

“Honey, please. You don’t want to hear all the dirty things Rubble does to me every night.”

“Every night?”

“Or day. Or both.” Jupiter smiled secretively. “My man is a sex addict if I ever saw one.”

“And you’re good with that?”

“Seeing how he gets me off every time, only has eyes for me, and makes me feel like a goddess—I freaking love it.”

Delphi fell quiet. She’d heard tidbits from Jupiter over the months but never had any man to compare the stories to. Without a doubt, Brewer would put all her previous lovers to shame. And we hardly even kissed.

Her lips tingled, remembering his firm yet soft touch. He was handsome, and she’d always known he would make for one hell of a one-night stand, but when he kissed her, everything changed. Suddenly, Brewer wasn’t an asshole biker trying to flame her temper. The way he had put his hands on her waist, pulling her close while his lips sent her into a frenzy cleared her mind of all the bullshit.

Their kiss replayed in her mind. It was the best first kiss—though she’d never admit it to him. It’d only make him cockier.Catching her bottom lip between her teeth, Delphi thought back to the large bulge pressed against her thigh while their tongues tangled. She shuddered at the thought of what he could do with that solid length.

“Hello, earth to Delphi.”

Jupiter’s voice broke into Delphi’s fantasy. “Huh?”

“You’re home.”

Looking out the window, she spotted the bistro and her apartment on the floor above it. “Right. Thanks for the ride. I owe you one.”

Jupiter put the SUV in gear and grinned. “You’ll fall for a Macha man if you spend more time with Brewer.”

She hopped out and closed the door. “I can’t, Jupiter.”

“Can’t or won’t?”

“Both.” Delphi waved and started up the sidewalk to her door. Jupiter was right. If she and Brewer spent any time together, she’d lose control of her heart. And that’ll only end in disaster.

She fished out her keys as she climbed the stairs. A large glass of red wine and a bubble bath were what her body craved. It’d be simple enough to steer clear of Brewer. She’d blow him off until he got the picture. Falling for a Macha man wasn’t in her future.

IgnoringBrewer’s calls was easy. Delphi hated answering when anyone called, let alone the biker who kissed her earlier in the week. The text messages were also no trouble to dodge. The one thing she doubted she could get away with was not seeing him when he stopped by the bistro. But as luck would have it, one of the waitresses asked to move to the front, so Delphi was able to focus on cooking, her real passion.

By the time Sunday night came around, her calves were burning from the long week she’d put in as well as the recent jog around Snowshoe. She pushed up her thick headband, sweat dampening her matching athletic outfit.

She pressed her fingers against her neck to check her pulse as she walked slowly back to her apartment. The sun played hide-and-seek behind clouds, and a brisk spring chill cooled her body temperature. Her muscles ached from kneading bread all morning, then bussing tables when the busboy called in sick. All in all, she was ready for a day off. The familiar scent of Guinness drifted to her.Brewer.She’d done her damnedest to not think twice about him. It was easier said than done when her mind kept replaying the way his lips felt against hers. She shivered at the memory and turned off the music in her earbuds. After finishing work, then letting off steam with a jog, a long soak in the tub was next on her agenda.

“You’re one hard girl to pin down.”

His sexy voice stopped her from grasping the door handle. Her heart thudded against her ribcage, and she had to tell herself it was from the exercise and not the man behind her.

Turning slightly, Delphi took a moment to appreciate Brewer’s appearance. His red hair stuck out beneath a dark wool cap, his blue eyes sparkling with mischief. The matching beard was neatly trimmed, and his lips were curled upward in a half smile. A pair of jeans with his Macha cut overtop a dark red hooded sweatshirt and black boots rounded out the biker vibe.

“Maybe I was avoiding you,” she finally said, grabbing her phone out of her back pocket.

“Oh, I know that’s what you were doing.” He caught up with her.
