A few of her friends from high school went for the bad biker boys, but Delphi had sworn to steer clear of them as much as possible. She had a plan for her life, and no hunky guy would keep her from it.

“First up, the dynamic duo Delphi and Jupiter singing ‘Somethin’ Bad,’” the DJ—another MC biker—called from the stage.

“No turning back now,” Delphi said, grabbing her friend’s hand and hauling her up front. The bright spotlight heated her instantly. Looking to her right, she saw Jupiter grab the other mic with an anxious expression on her face. Delphi winked and the music started.

After diving in on the first verse, Delphi grinned over at Jupiter. By the time the chorus came, they were both smiling and singing along with the music. On the last note, they linked arms and bowed. Whistles from the back of the bar accompanied the modest claps from the audience.

“That’d be Rubble and the boys,” Jupiter said, pride evident in her voice.

Although she only knew part of their love story, Delphi respected the hulking man Jupiter fell in love with. He’d protected Jupiter from a horrid past and gave her a future worthy of her. Delphi couldn’t ask for more than that for her fast friend.

Following Jupiter through the crowd, Delphi approached the booth filled with men and women sporting Macha MC apparel.

“Great job, ladies,” Rubble said, his mismatched eyes homed in on his wife. The first time Delphi saw him, she did a double take at his one blue eye and one green eye combination. It wasn’t a trait she’d ever come across before.

“Thanks.” Jupiter propped herself on Rubble’s knee and kissed him lightly. “But it was Delphi who led the vocals.” She stuck out her tongue at her. “I was up there under duress.”

“Who’s getting under a dress?” someone teased while bringing a round of beers to the large booth.

Delphi glanced over at the tall man who had curly red hair and a beard to match. He passed out the Guinness, making jokes as he chatted.

“You wish,” said a man with the name Cueball on his vest.

“Oh, believe me, brother, I’ll be getting under some lucky lady’s dress.” He caught Delphi’s gaze and slowly eyed her from head to toe, then back up to her face. “Maybe even yours, if you’d like.”

“She wouldn’t,” Jupiter jumped in, playfully swatting the man.

Delphi gave him a onceover and shrugged. “Meh, if this is the bottom of the Macha barrel, I guess you’ll do.”

A round of“Oohs”echoed around the table and she smirked. She wasn’t expecting the equally jovial expression from the man she recently dissed.

He took a step closer, his black T-shirt showing only the name of the bar on the left breast pocket. “I don’t think I’ve seen you around the bar before.”

“That’s because it’s my first time here.”

“Brewsky likes the first-timers,” Cueball snickered, sipping his beer.

Ignoring him, Brewer held her gaze. “What’s your name, sweetheart?”

“I’m no one’s sweetheart, but you can call me Delphi,” she said, lifting her brows, a smile playing on her lips.

“Delphi.” He nodded. “I like it. Sounds exotic. Got a last name to go with it?”

“None I’m willing to share.” She smirked. “Is Brewsky actually your name, or is it a nickname?”

“Both. Name’s Brewer.” His blue eyes danced. “My parents were pretty unique.”

“Yo, Brewer, you flirting or slinging drinks?”

Delphi looked over her shoulder at the petite blonde who was gesturing with her hands in the air, clearly overwhelmed.

“Better get back before thirsty customers take over the bar.” Brewer grabbed the empty tray. “Catch you later, Delphi.”

“Doubtful,” she flirted back. “Nobody catches me.”

“Slippery, huh? Or just wet?” Brewer leaned over and whispered, “I can handle it either way, sweetheart.”

Taken back by his brazen words, Delphi’s mouth dropped open. He chuckled, chucked her under the chin, then walked back to the bar.
