“What the hell just happened?”

Jupiter sipped water through a straw. “Brewer happened.” She nudged Rubble to get him to make room for Delphi. “Have a seat. I’ll explain the havoc of Macha’s men.”

Delphi shook her head. Her mind was too fuzzy. “I better not. Gotta get up early and make a fresh batch of baguettes.”

Her friend saw straight through the fib but didn’t let on. “You sure? Hawk can tell Brewer stories until last call.”

“Yeah, I haven’t hired a new baker, so it’s all on me.” She laughed. “That’s what happens when you own a French bistro. People want authentic food, and I’m the only one who can give that to them right now.”

Jupiter rose quickly and gave her a hug. “Don’t let Brewer fool ya. He’s got a heart of gold. All of Macha’s men do. Just takes a while to see that, with some of them.”

Delphi didn’t want to break it to her that she’d never mine long enough to find Brewer’s gold. The time for bad-boy projects was long over. She had her café and her tabby cat, Fiona, waiting for her at home. She didn’t need a man.Well, except every now and then.

“I’ll stop by the bakery in the morning,” she promised, mouth already salivating at the thought of whatever pastry concoctions Jupiter and Yasmina would have waiting.

“Only if you bring a baguette or two.”

“Deal.” Delphi waved goodbye to the bikers, but only Rubble acknowledged her before she made a hasty escape to the side exit.

“Leaving so soon? Hope I didn’t scare you off.”

Brewer’s low voice made her gasp. It wasn’t easy and teasing like it had been a few minutes earlier. It was concerned. Soft, even.

Turning toward him, she shook her head. “Not at all. I have to get up early for work.”

“Where do you work? Maybe I can talk to your boss so you can stay out for a while.” His gaze dipped to her mouth. “I make one mean Irish car bomb.”

There was that teasing tone she’d grown to both adore and loathe within moments of meeting him.

“Thanks, but I’m my own boss, so no chance there.” She grabbed the handle and pushed the door open.

“If you change your mind, I’ll be here until last call.” His blue eyes turned a shade darker. “Then in my room at the clubhouse if you’d rather take the party elsewhere.”

Rolling her eyes, she flipped him her middle finger. “Keep dreaming, Macha man. I don’t have the energy to deal with a flirtatious dick.”

“You sure about that?” He straddled the threshold, wiggling his brows mischievously. “You haven’t tried mine yet. I’ve heard it’s pretty fabulous.”

Seeing that her off-putting attitude wasn’t getting her anywhere with this guy, Delphi turned the tables. She closed the small distance between them and pressed herself against his chest. “You honestly think you can handle this, darling?”

She nuzzled his nose before licking his top lip. His body stiffened, and she felt the telltale signs of his arousal against her stomach. If she wasn’t turned off by his biker arrogance, she thought she’d rather like the idea of having a tattooed guy on her arm.

“You think you’re any match for my prowess?”

She smirked when he tried to kiss her. The look in his eyes was a mixture of thrilled and exasperated. “Please, sweetheart. Don’t make me laugh.” She reached down and cupped the sizeable package in his jeans. Once again, her desire to feel him inside her nearly outweighed her determination to serve him a slice of humility.

Delphi then placed a small kiss on the side of his neck and said, “I don’t date bikers, so get it out of your mind, Brewer.”

He didn’t move. His lust-glazed eyes stayed focused on her. She could almost see the words trying to form within that fevered brain under his mop of red curls. “Delphi— “

She put a finger over his lips. “Not happening. End of story.”

With that, she turned on her toes and escaped into the night air, heading toward her blue Ford SUV. Only when she reached her car did she let out the breath she’d been holding. Her heart pounded in her chest, a familiar warmth spreading between her legs. No, I can’t get involved with him. It’d been years since she felt anything remotely like sexual attraction for anyone, much less a patched Macha member.

She climbed in and started the engine. The girls’ night out she’d planned on having quickly morphed into hungering for a type of man she promised herself to never fall for again.

“Shake it off, Delphi. There are other men in Snowshoe who’ll make you feel alive.” She put the car in gear and hoped to God she was right.
