“No, but I’ve driven by several times over the years.” She tossed a thumb behind them. “The locked gate isn’t exactly inviting.”

He smirked and took her hand in his. “For good reason. This is the club’s getaway spot.”

As they walked up the front steps, Delphi had to hand it to the designer. It looked exactly like a ritzy log cabin, not a bunker. The more she looked, the more she noticed the reinforced walls, cameras, and all-around security involved in the multiple buildings hidden among tall trees.

“How often does the club come up here?”

He opened the large door and walked in first, punching in a code on the alarm monitor before answering. “It’s not just for bad times. It’s for good ones too.”

Brewer flipped on the lights and the entryway came to life. A large modern chandelier hung from above, illuminating the space perfectly. “Last summer we had a complete lockdown.”

“Why?”

“Some drama with a club in Ireland.”

Delphi vaguely recalled reading about a shooting the previous summer. “What happened?”

He walked further into the open concept space, heading toward the large kitchen. “You’ve met Isa, right?”

Recalling the pretty woman with an Irish accent, she nodded.

“Isa was targeted in an MC war in Ireland. Her dad sent her to us for protection, but the other club followed.”

“Oh.” Her mind whirled with questions.

“And before you ask, her dad was the reason she got involved.” He grabbed a bottle of whiskey and two glasses. “But it ended happily. She and Doc hit it off.” He smirked. “Eventually.”

“What do you mean?”

Brewer poured the whiskey and motioned to the barstools pushed up against the kitchen bar. “I’ll let my cousin tell that tale. She takes pride in her storytelling capabilities.”

Delphi took a seat and sipped the whiskey. The brown liquid burned but settled her nerves almost instantly. “She mentioned you were related. Did you know when she arrived?”

“Nope.” He leaned over the counter. “But when I started hitting on her, it came out. Pissed Doc off too until he found out.”

“Hey, isn’t she due, like, any day now?”

“Oh, yeah, but knowing Isa, her kid is just as stubborn by not refusing to be born on time.” He finished his whiskey in one long gulp and held out his hand. “I’ll give you the grand tour if you’d like.”

Mirroring his act, she swallowed the liquor and placed her hand in his. For the next twenty minutes, Brewer walked them through each room in Macha’s mountain stronghold. It was state-of-the-art, and not one part was cheaply made. From the pool to the escape tunnels, she was amazed by the intuitiveness of the club’s planning. They didn’t leave anything to chance. Somehow it made her feel better about the meeting with Shovelhead. No matter how she looked at it, Macha could protect her.

“The nymphs have the basement level, but it’s nothing to brag about.” He nodded to the stairs to the basement. “There’s also the booze cellar that I predominately maintain and a couple other rooms.”

Curiosity getting the better of her, Delphi watched Brewer walk away still talking about the history of the house before she carefully walked down the dark stairs. She found a light at the bottom and flipped it on. There were two doors on the landing space opposite each other. One she was sure led to the cellar. The other was what she wanted to see.

Trying the door on the right, she felt along the wall for a light switch. Finding one, she braced herself for the worst. To her surprise, it was filled with bottles of assorted liquors and kegs of beer.

“You sure you want to see the nymph lair?”

Delphi yelped, hand going to her mouth. “Dammit, Brewer, you scared me.” She lightly smacked his chest.

“Sorry.” He offered her a sheepish grin.

“And yes, I do. All the bikers talk about nymphs, and I’ve met a few.” She lifted her chin. “I want to see what’s so alluring.”

Brewer parted his lips, then seemed to think better of it. He moved to the other door and opened it, turning on the lights. “Dolly likes to rearrange a lot down here, so I have no clue what’s waiting.”

Entering the space felt wrong on some level, but Delphi didn’t let that stop her. She took it all in. The walls were painted a light gray. Several pool tables were set up, and there was a bar at the far end. Large speakers sat in every corner, a DJ booth was stationed near a door on the opposite wall. If she had to guess, it led to a patio area. Couches were set up sporadically throughout the space, and a few tables for cards also filled the room. The south wall held four televisions, no doubt for watching sporting events and to give the club members variety.
