Delphi lost track of how they got to the small infirmary. Jupiter seemed to know what she was doing, flipping on lights, and opening cabinets for supplies.

“Grab those blankets, will ya?”

Quickly getting to work, Delphi took an armful of blankets from the closet and placed them on the counter.

“Ach, put me down. I can walk, you fools,” Isa said from the hallway.

Delphi looked over and couldn’t help but chuckle. Isa waddled into the room, one hand on the small of her back, the other on her stomach. Doc followed, cursing under his breath about his old lady’s stubbornness. Rubble came through the door next, followed by Brewer, Hawk, Reaper, Kevlar, and Nikita.

Suddenly the decent-sized room was as small as a shoebox. Everyone was talking at once, the noise level above average, even for the club. Isa climbed onto the hospital bed, making herself comfortable despite the audience.

A loud whistle pierced the air, silencing everyone. Queenie moved through the throng, her expression one of motherly concern.

“There are far too many bodies here, and there’s about to be one more, so if you don’t have medical training, get out.”

The bikers shuffled toward the door, voicing their respect and encouragement to Doc and Isa.

“There’ll be plenty of time for you to see the baby later,” Queenie added with a proud smile. “It’s been too long since we had a newborn.”

Making for the door, Delphi paused at the threshold when someone called her name.

“Delphi, please stay. We could use your hands.”

She turned and shook her head. “I’m the last person you want near anything medical related.”

Isa let out a cry and immediately pulled Delphi from her spot. She wasn’t sure why, but all of a sudden, she had to do something to help the sweet woman. She snatched a washcloth from the counter and flipped on the faucet, running it under cold water.

“Yasmina has some experience with midwifery,” Dolly chimed in from the door with the woman at her side.

Doc’s worried eyes looked over. “You do?”

Yasmina offered a small nod. “My aunt is a midwife in my country. Sometimes, I would go with her.”

“Well, between you and me, we have decent skills.” Doc pointed to Brewer. “Call the hospital and have them send an ambulance. Since she insisted on having our baby here, she’s going straight to the hospital afterward.”

“On it.” Brewer squeezed Delphi’s hand before walking out of the room.

Doc turned to Isa and shook his head. “Damn woman, you’re gonna give me a heart attack.”

Isa laughed, then doubled over in pain. “Worth it.”

Doc rolled his eyes and his gaze landed on her. “You doing all right, Delphi? You look pretty pale.”

Delphi swallowed the bile in her throat, her hands clammy. She placed the washcloth on Isa’s forehead and stepped backward. “I should go.”

Yasmina set up camp at Isa’s feet, and Delphi’s stomach lurched.

“Shit, she’s gonna pass out,” she heard Doc yell.

Strong arms caught her before she completely collapsed to the hard floor. Her mind spun, the lights brighter than moments earlier. She tried to keep her eyes open, but her eyelids were too heavy.

“Note to self, don’t let Delphi anywhere near a delivery room,” she heard Brewer’s teasing voice.

Her lips failed an automatic snarky reply, but they didn’t miss the feathery kiss he brushed on them. Black overtook her sight, Brewer’s the last face she saw.
