“What the hell does that mean?”

“Yasmina works at Macha’s bakery and she freaking loves it. I couldn’t pull her away from there. Not after all the hell she’s been through.”

“Little sister, there are other towns that need a kick-ass bakery.” He stood up and offered her a sympathetic hug. “If you want to start over, you can. Macha would never turn their back on you, and if things didn’t work out, you’d be more than welcome to return.”

Dolly rested her chin on her fist. “You sound more like a cabinet member than a brother right now.”

“What? That’s not… never mind.”

“Careful, Brewer, your brothers may vote you in yet.” She playfully punched his stomach, then started walking down the hallway toward the nymph lair in the basement. “You’d make a damn good VP or president too, you know.”

He didn’t have a chance to refute her statement. The door to the basement shut behind her, ending the conversation. Brewer shoved the thought aside. He didn’t want to be anything in the club except a member. It might be nice.

Walking out the side door, he pushed all notions of the upcoming cabinet vote to the side. If his brothers wanted him there, they’d say so. He wasn’t about to campaign for a spot at the head of Macha’s table.Whatever happens, happens.

His phone buzzed with a new text message from Delphi.

Delphi: Received a new message from Grant.

Brewer: Be right over. Hang tight.

He found his recently waxed motorcycle in the parking lot and thanked the goddess for the fine spring day. Many more of those were to come, and he couldn’t wait to spend them with Delphi.

CHAPTER30

DELPHI

Grant: You can’t handle the truth. But you’re about to find out anyways.

The message kept runningthrough her mind while Delphi prepped vegetables for the dinner rush. Brewer had driven over right after she received the message. He read it, then forwarded it to the club’s sergeant at arms, Rubble, before leaving once more.

Icanhandle the truth. I think. She stopped dicing celery and stared at the cutting board. Can’t I?Delphi wasn’t even sure what Grant meant.

The multi-city picnic was in three days. There was plenty of time to back out, but she wouldn’t.I can’t. Not when I’m so close to finding out what happened.

She started chopping again, this time green onions. Jupiter would stop by after work to pick her up so they could visit Isa and the baby at the hospital. Doc being Doc, he had somehow finagled the hospital to let her stay longer than usual.

In a small way, Delphi was looking forward to seeing the baby and Isa. Another part of her wanted nothing to do with the place where her parents died.Nothing good ever happens in a hospital. It’d been her mantra for years and had held true up until now.

“Hey, are you ready to go?”

Looking up, Delphi met Jupiter’s gaze. “It’s time already?” She glanced to the clock and made a face. “Damn, how long have I been dicing?”

Jupiter walked around the kitchen island and chuckled. “Long enough to have everything ready for the picnic prep.”

“Give me five minutes and let’s go.” She quickly washed her hands in the sink. “Did you get a present?”

“Yep, and don’t worry, I signed your name too.”

Delphi lifted her brows. “Why?”

“Because you haven’t exactly had a lot of time to do anything but Brewer.”

She wanted to object, plead innocence even, but she couldn’t. Heat rushed to her cheeks, and she walked to the stairs. “That’s neither here nor there.”

“Oh, are those the places you haven’t had sex yet?” Jupiter teased.

Rolling her eyes, Delphi hurried up the stairs, changed, then rushed back down. Ten minutes later, they were on the road, and ten minutes after that, they stood in Isa’s hospital room.
