“Oh my God, Isa, she’s adorable,” Jupiter cooed, rocking the baby wrapped in pink blankets.

“She is, but she’s also a pain in the arse.” Isa laughed at the matching expressions on Jupiter and Delphi’s faces. “What? She’s like her father. Wants my tits every few hours.”

Jupiter carefully handed the newborn to Delphi. “Sounds like Doc, yeah.”

Delphi looked down at the sleeping baby. For a brief second, she couldn’t breathe. All she could do was stare at the perfect little nose and the eyelashes longer than what should be permitted on an infant. “What’s her name?”

“Cliodhna.”

“How’s that spelled?”

“The Irish way.” Isa’s eyes sparkled. “Took Doc forever to spell it correctly, but once he got it down, neither of us could think of a better one.

“So Clee-na?” Jupiter said, trying out the Gaelic name.

“Aye. Cliodhna is the goddess of love and beauty. In some myths, she’s also Queen of the Banshees.”

“The way she wails, she sure is so far,” Doc said, walking into the room.

Isa nodded, a content smile on her face. It was obvious to anyone who saw them how in love they were with each other and their daughter.

“It’s a beautiful name,” Jupiter said, grinning at little Cliodhna.

“Yes, it really is.” Delphi froze at the baby’s stirring and gratefully passed her off to Doc.

“Not used to holding babes, are you?”

Glancing at Isa, she shook her head. “Never had much of a chance, growing up as a single child. I never babysat either. Most of my friends moved away, so if they had kids, I never met them.”

“Don’t worry. If you hang out with the club long enough, you’ll have plenty of babies to hold,” Doc said, sitting on the edge of Isa’s bed. “I mean, you’re friends with Jupiter, so that’s another one right there.”

“And if Rubble has any say, they’ll have more than one,” Isa said with a cheerful smile.

Jupiter rested both hands on her protruding stomach and sat in one of the chairs by the bed. “This one is a miracle. I’m not holding my breath for a sibling, but I’m all for having plenty of sex, just in case.”

Delphi was well aware of the story behind Jupiter’s reasoning, and she couldn’t fault her one bit. Neither Jupiter nor Rubble thought they could have biological children, so when Jupiter found out she was expecting, they’d taken every precaution to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

“Plus, if you and Brewer ever have children….” Isa let the rest of her sentence hang there for them all to speculate on.

For the second time that afternoon, Delphi’s skin flamed with warmth, and not in her preferred way.

“We’re nowhere near talking about that. We barely know each other.”

Doc gave Cliodhna a pacifier when she started to fuss. “Pretty sure that’s the beginning of all our stories, Delphi.”

Isa nodded and Jupiter mirrored the act before saying, “The only exception is Nikita. She and Kevlar had a history, so they rekindled their affection.”

Shifting on her feet, Delphi averted her eyes from the two women who were her closest friends, even after such a short time. They weren’t wrong, but she wasn’t ready to admit it.

“How’s the picnic planning going?” Doc asked, steering the conversation another direction. Delphi could’ve kissed him for reading between the lines of her silence.

“Delphi and Yasmina have all the prep work done. Rubble said he and Kevlar would set up the tents in case it rains. Plus, if it’s sunny, it’ll draw more people to the shade.” Jupiter grinned. “Oh, and I made a few calls to the women’s shelter. They’ll be participating too. Some of the women have quilts, blankets, and other items to sell. All proceeds from their goods will go to the shelter to help the women get back on their feet.”

Doc nodded, a proud smile on his face. “You’ve done a great job there, Jupiter. Rubble never shuts up about it.”

Isa waved for their baby at the next whimper. “As he should. Jupiter works harder than five Macha men combined.”

“You’re one to talk,” Jupiter added. “You and Queenie kick ass at the boutique every day, and you design the clothes.”
