“Oh Stacey, no wonder you’re out of sorts today. How do you feel about that?”

I’m out of sorts because my one-night stand is seeing patients in my boss’s room!

“For not being a lab rat anymore?” I snorted. “Very fine. I’m glad it’s all over.”

Pam searched my face, then finally nodded. “I’ll let you get back to it.”

Another patient was now in the waiting room. I kept clicking the wrong tabs on the patient records system. I took a deep breath and tried again.

“Don’t worry, Stacey.” Mrs Marsden said over my desk with a knowing smile. “First day back after leave I always stuff up the computers at work. Never remember my password.”

I gritted my teeth. I never stuffed up, never forgot my passwords or how to do basic computer operations when I came back from leave.

The source of my mistakes washim. His deep voice, that wink, the deadpan way he said he was glad his performance was satisfactory. The way he looked at me as if no one else was in the room.

I blushed again. How was I going to deal with him working here for eight weeks?

My mind was determined to reminisce on how exactly he’d satisfied my needs two days ago. I finally clicked the right buttons for Mrs Marsden to pay her account. After she left, and I had the next patient ready, I re-opened up the chat with Sam.

STAC: Abort convo. We were sprung. Will call at lunch.

Sam: by the guy who gave you the Big O? He saw the orgasm comment?!?!?

STAC: basically, yes. Totally busted. Have to go. *four skull and crossbones emojis*

Sam: CALL ME AS SOON AS YOU CAN. I NEED TO KNOW MORE

I closed the chat window with a sigh. Today was going to be a long day.

* * *

Work was busy and long. A patient was over time with Harry so I did a quick handover to Pam for the front desk and bolted for my lunch break. I didn’t want to be cornered by him for a conversation about my instant messages.

As soon as I was outside, I rang Sam.

“What the fuck happened?” Sam blasted into the phone.

I chuckled. “Hello to you too.”

“Answer me right now,” Sam retorted. A muffled noise distorted her phone. “I’m in the break room for another four minutes. Get straight to the details.”

Sam worked part-time at the Ballydoon General Store.

“I didn’t know he was standing behind me. I had our chat window open when a patient walked in and he saw our messages.”

She cursed. “Did you get in trouble? What did he do?”

“He didn’t do anything. Literally not a thing. Except he leant on my desk and whispered that we need to talk about my work orgasm emergency. And then took the patient to his consult room.”

I held the phone back from my ear as Sam squealed.

“Holy shit, are you kidding me? Are you for real?” She inhaled. “Wait, wait, Stacey. Are you saying he’s not a patient? Is your Operation End Sex Drought hook-up the new doctor at work?”

I cringed. “Yes.”

I’d forgotten to mention that minor detail. I ducked into a laneway off the main street.

“So … he wasn’t mad about our messages? Do you think he wants to talk about giving you more orgasms?” Sam started to cheer. “Girl, this isn’t just the end of your sex drought. This could be the start of a sex storm. A sex monsoon!”
