I burst out laughing, slipping my hand under the waistband of her sweatpants and grabbing her ass cheek. “Come on, it’s just I’m hardly ever wrong, so you’re not used to hearing me admit it. It’s definitely a rarity.”

She rolls her eyes again. “And there he is.”

Chuckling, I lean in to kiss her, my fingers teasing her inside her sweatpants. “Here I am,” I whisper against her mouth. “But come on, how about we both go outside to get supplies?”

We spendabout thirty minutes outside, most of it with the two of us randomly wandering around looking for something that might be somehow useful. Even though I’d told Delaney that I had some ideas for her presents, it’s actually a lot harder than I thought. There’s literally nothing out here except trees and rocks and an endless amount of fucking snow.

I look over at Delaney who’s breaking off a branch from one of the pine trees. It’s thick and she’s yanking down hard, when it suddenly snaps off and she falls back on her ass as snow falls off the branch and onto her legs.

I laugh, shaking my head as I call out, “You okay?”

She scowls over at me. “No peeking, Alex,” she shouts.

I hold my hands up, still grinning. “Got it, no peeking. But same goes for you, Laney.”

“Yeah, I know,” she mutters as she stands up, brushing the snow off her before marching back to the cabin. “Hurry up, it’s getting cold!”

“Getting cold,” I say with a laugh. “It’s constantly fucking cold, Laney!”

“I know,” she yells, laughing now too. “So hurry up!”

“Okay, okay,” I mutter, snapping off a couple of the long stems I’ve managed to find. The leaves are shit, having turned mostly brown and fallen off, but they will have to do.

I walk over to where she’s waiting on the porch and her eyes immediately drop to the branches in my arms. Laughing, I nudge her toward the door.

“Inside,” I tease, kicking the door closed behind us and wedging the chair back under the handle. “You, over there,” I add, pointing to the fire. “And remember, no peeking!”

She gives me a salute, a smirk on her face as she grabs a couple of things from the kitchen area before wandering over to the fire. Before she gets started, she throws a couple more logs on the fire and adds a pot of water to the top to boil.

I get myself set up at the table, using the fish line to try and pull together this present for her. It’s fucking harder than I thought, but I persist, hoping if nothing else that she gets a laugh out of it. I also take care of the second present idea I had too, glancing over my shoulder to make sure she isn’t watching before I sort it.

“Okay, I’m done,” I eventually say, standing from the chair.

Laney laughs, shaking her head. “Yeah, me too, although, just giving you a head’s up, my gift is pretty lame.”

Laughing, I walk over to her. “If it’s from you, it’s never gonna be lame, Laney.”

She rolls her eyes but she’s smiling as she says, “My god, does anyone else know about this seriously sweet side you have?”

I hook a finger into the top of her sweatpants and tug her closer. “No, I told you,” I say, brushing my lips against hers. “My sweet side is only for you.”

She shakes her head but she’s smiling as she kisses me. “Good.”

I give her another quick kiss before pulling back. “Okay, you ready for your presents?”

Delaney claps her hands together, a huge smile on her face as she glances over at the table. “Yep, hit me with it!”

Laughing, I take her hand and pull her over to the table, not risking holding this creation up because I’m certain it’s probably going to fall apart when I do. “Okay, Merry Christmas, Laney,” I say, wrapping my arm around her shoulders as I wave a hand over the table.

She takes one look at what I’ve made her and bursts out laughing. “Oh my fucking god, Alex, did you seriously make me a bra and panties set out of leaves and twine?”

“Yep,” I reply with a nod. “But you wanna know the best part?”

She glances up at me, her smile wide and her eyes shining with happiness. “Um, it’s single use only?”

I let out a loud laugh, squeezing her shoulder. “Ha ha, cheeky girl,” I reply. “But actually, these aren’t just any leaves,” I explain. “They’re thimbleberry leaves.”

That giggle I adore falls from her mouth. “Um, okay Scout Leader, Alex, and that’s supposed to impress me, why?”
