I lean forward and kiss her on her forehead.

Nora stirs, slowly at first, then jolts awake.

“What time is it?” she asks, grabbing for her phone.

“It’s okay,” I tell her, “It’s early. 5 o’clock.”

Nora relaxes. “Okay, thank goodness. I need to get home and change for school.”

“I assumed,” I tell her, sitting up in bed, too. “I wish I had time to make you coffee.”

Nora smiles. “I’m actually more of a tea drinker.”

“Well, I guess I need to start buying tea,” I say without thinking. “I mean… I’m not assuming…”

Nora leans forward and kisses my lips. “You should definitely start buying tea.”

Nora climbs out of bed and starts grabbing her clothes, sliding them onto her perfect body. I grab my robe out of my closet and wrap it around myself.

“Can I walk you out?” I ask her.

She grins at me. “You better.”

We quietly walk to the front door.

I carefully open it and say, “Well, you have my number, so, you know, use it.”

“I will text you after school,” she tells me. “I had a great time.”

I kiss her lips, holding it for just a beat before I let go. “I had a great time, too. I’ll talk to you soon.”

And I watch her walk away, then slowly close the door.

* * *

It’s 5:30 p.m. and there has been no text from Nora.

I try not to overthink it.

I mean, why would she not reach out?

She’s probably just busy.

I am really starting to regret not getting her number, and only leaving her with mine.

I hate this out-of-control feeling.

She’ll text.

I just have to stay busy.

And wait.
