“Trent… holy shit, how’s it going?” I ask him.

The connection isn’t great.

But he says, “… okay… no luck… keep trying.”

“I can’t hear you very well,” I tell him. “Trying and move around so you get better service.”

“Is this better?” he asks.

“Yes,” I tell him. “Now stay perfectly still and don’t move.”

Trent sighs. “I’m bending off of a balcony. We are probably going to need to keep this call short.”

“Okay, so you first… no luck yet?” I ask him.

“Not yet, but it’s only a matter of time. Michelle isn’t going to get married unless it’s to me,” he says confidently.

“Well alright then,” I say, admiring his resolve. “Now onto my thing. Judah Parks. What do you know about him?”

I pray he only has good things to say.

Trent may be my idiot brother, but he’s still my brother, and I value his opinion.

Although, what could he possibly have to say about Judah that’s bad?

“Oh, Judah? Great guy. Sad story. He was madly in love with Busy’s mom. Then she died of breast cancer. It was really unexpected.”

Oof.

Madly in love?

I hadn’t considered that.

“When did she die?” I ask, feeling morbid even saying it.

“A few years ago. I think Busy was only about a year. But Judah hasn’t dated anyone since. At least, that’s what the moms tell me,” Trent says. “Why do you ask?”

Geez.

That is a lot of pressure.

Am I ready to be the first woman he dates after the love of his life?

And… there’s Busy to think about.

If he hasn’t dated, then Busy may get really attached really fast.

Am I ready for a built-in family?

A lump forms in my throat.

“Trent? I gotta go. I’m getting another call,” I lie, then quickly hang up.

I need time to think about this.

I stare at Judah’s name in my phone.

I consider what to say, but everything sounds like a cop-out.
