You waited for his heart to grow,

But he doesn’t want your desire, no….

Yet you let your desire reign, desire reign, desire reign.

As you grew, you wanted the desire to wane,

But instead, it followed you

from state to state

It’s hard to keep him from your mind,

He hates you, yet you want him,

You love him, yet he forgets you

You should move on, yet you let your desire reign.

You’re the one who wants to be with him.

Deep inside you hope he feels it too,

You waited for his heart to grow,

But he doesn’t want your desire, no….

Yet you let your desire reign, desire reign, desire reign.

In the end, there is no dream to dream,

In the end there is no hope to hope,

Yet you hold onto memories of summer,

Of should haves and what ifs

You hold on to desire, that strong desire.

You let your desire reign.

You let your desire reign, desire reign, desire reign.

You let your desire reign, desire reign, desire reign.

You let your desire reign, desire reign, desire reign.

The music fades out and for a moment, the crowd is silent. My ears are ringing, and my hands are clenched at my sides; nails digging into my palms so much they hurt. That song is about me. Who the hell else could it be about?

I’ll never like you like that. Those fucking words. But those words aren’t the only ones ringing in my ears. She loved me back then; and now she thinks I hate her. Well, I guess in a way I do, but I didn’t hate her back then. There was no reason to. She’s the one that made our relationship weird, not me.

I wonder if Ben and Wren know this song is about me and her. Ben claims he never knew what went down between us early that summer, but maybe he did. Maybe he’s just trying to get me to say it. He has to have an idea if he knows that song, which I know he does.

“Birdie says that song is about some unrequited high school love. Think he knows?” Shea asks, breaking my thoughts.

I don’t answer her or look to see if she’s trying to get information from me, instead I walk off the stage to get ready for the fan meet-and-greet and press interviews after the show. That’s where I’m needed now. I can’t watch any more of this. It’s too much. Too many memories and feelings. Things I shouldn’t be feeling while on a job.

I need to get my damn head in the game.
