He grunts like a caveman. “I’m being serious. I’m not worried about my safety. But there are some things I’d like to clear up with you about my past, and if they dig around about my dad and rehab, I need to give my parents some warning. I also want you to myself for a bit before the entire world knows. Is that okay?”

“Of course it’s okay. I just thought—”

He brushes some hair behind my ear, then runs his knuckle over my cheek. “I want this with you Birdie,” he leans his forehead against mine. “You do something to me, something I didn’t even know was possible—I’m not making sense. All my thoughts are cliche, sweet and gross; all the things I hate. But it’s all true.”

I let out a breathy laugh. “I understand. And I agree, boyfriend.” The word feels foreign on my tongue, but when I use it to refer to Liam, it doesn’t seem so bad. A wide smile breaks out on his face, and I can’t help but smile with him.

“And for the record, when I meant we’d be going out by ourselves, I meant with some other security detail as well. I had Gia arrange a few things for us, stuff that won’t draw any attention. You have nothing to worry about.”

My cheeks flush with embarrassment. “Oh…” is all I manage to say.

He chuckles. “Now let’s eat. We have a solid day ahead of us, and I need to get a few things done before we go.”

I take a piece of bacon and tear off a large bite. “What things?” I notice his jaw tick, but he swallows his bite of toast, waving me off.

“Just doing some background check stuff. Nothing I want to worry you about.”

It’s obvious he doesn’t want to talk about the stalker, and to be frank, I don’t want too either. “Okay.”

He turns his head toward me and gives me another beautiful Liam smile. “Better eat up,Girlfriend.”

My stomach tingles. But instead of kissing him, I reach for another piece of bacon. He just laughs at my choice.

Midafternoon, Liam and I are close to our first destination. He’s been mostly quiet during the drive, like he has a lot on his mind.

“You’re really not going to tell me what we’re doing?” I ask, breaking the silence.

“We’re here. You can’t wait another minute?” he chuckles.

“I’m not really a fan of surprises.”

“Isn’t that something people who like surprises usually say?” he quips.

I shake my head at him. “I don’t.”

He leans over from his seat and gives me a short kiss. “You’ll like this one.” We hear a tap on the door once we come to a stop. Liam gets out after he gives me one more kiss.

There are two security guys outside standing guard while Liam turns to help me down. He’s in full bodyguard mode and I make sure I don’t gaze at him all googly eyed in case there are photographers around. Once I’m out of the car, I take in the building before us and the surrounding area. We're somewhere outside of Nashville, and I know why when I see where we are.

“You brought me to a distillery?” I ask once we’re out of earshot of the extra security men.

“Of course, I did.”

I smirk. “Trying to get me hammered?”

“No, but I do think you’ll enjoy this place's bourbon,” he says happily while opening the door so I can walk through.

“How is this private?”

“Liam. Fucking. Miller,” a loud voice booms. My eyes focus forward on a large man who has a shaved head and looks like the incredible hulk. He’s… massive. Tattoos run down his arms, and he has a wide smile on his face.

“Hammer! Nice to see you man,” Liam greets him with a big hug and pat on the back.

Hammer?I admit that nickname, if it is a nickname, is appropriate.

“And who is this little lady here?” he drawls, his southern accent thick.

Liam lets out an amused sound. “You know who this is, Hammer.”
