Chapter 1

Alice

Present Day…

“Tell me,Doctor, do you like to indulge in fantasies?”

I could make out the bulge in his pants, tenting the delicate fabric of his trousers as he watched me beneath that dark hooded gaze. The emerald hue seemed to deepen with each second that passed. I knew I had gotten to him. He shifted in his makeshift throne, all high and mighty, holding that title of his. Yet, he lifted his leg and propped and unpropped it on his knee several times in an attempt to hide his growing arousal.

There was a reason why the light wasn’t blinking on that camera anymore. He didn’t want an audience, at least not until the right moment. I sensed his need for control, but I wanted to push him slowly to the edge and tip him over. His perverse, twisted mind unknowingly wanted me to speak about the sexual urges that lingered beneath that muscular body. A tick in his jaw proved the struggle that raged within.

The doctor was a direct contradiction to the expensive suit, dark-rimmed glasses, and neatly combed hair of his appearance. The urge to ruffle his clothes and run my fingers through his slightly long hair until it was tousled, nearly overwhelmed me. The rugged sensual lines of his face contrasted with the sleek, no nonsense, clinical approach he tried so hard to convey.

Drawing out that delicious anticipation raised the heat level in my own body. I wanted to find out how far I could push him until he snapped. Would he fling those glasses to the side or use them as a crutch to keep focused on every move my body made in his presence?

Trailing a finger along my throat, I purposely lowered the digit inch by inch as he followed with his hungry eyes.

“Alice,” he warned, his voice lowering an octave.

Ah-ha.I knew it. Good doctor.

If he wanted my story, then I was going to give him an unforgettable one. One that thrived with those sinful descriptions he wanted so badly, begging for him to add his own tempting desires.

“You have no idea what goes on in Wonderland,” I answered with a sensual smoothness that I hoped made him squirm in his seat. “It was so . . .hard.”

He smirked with recognition of my ploy, but I could tell my words weren’t lost on him. “Why don’t you enlighten me,Alice.”

My smile was dim, never quite reaching my eyes as the mention of my enunciated name conjured a moment of panic. Memories surfaced, and for a moment I was caught up in my own darkness.

“Wonderland isn’t a place of enlightenment. Nor is it a place for the faint of heart.”

He nodded, silently bidding me to continue, his pen poised in the air. He had that way about him, a stillness that both unnerved and intrigued me. I wanted to push that haughty demeanor of his and expose those demons he held so close inside. I wondered if I could bring them to the surface, play with them just as he liked to do with mine.

“My first introduction to Wonderland was meek at best. A slow initiation into the darkness that lingered behind closed doors. You see, Doctor, Wonderland is a playground for the wicked. Love doesn’t exist in this underground world. No emotion or weakness, no compassion. Love is for fools in a purgatory that damns from the moment you enter. All that exists is a hunger so deep and vicious it can frighten the most malicious of souls.”

“So why call it home?”

I knew he would ask that sooner or later.

Our eyes met and I looked into that enchanting green gaze, an expression of discernment that almost challenged me to continue. I’d have to bare more than I wanted, and expose those hidden secrets that were buried so deep, and entrenched in my dark soul.

“It’s the only home I know.”

He seemed to contemplate my response, the raw admission exactly as he concluded, while he tapped the pen against his thigh, never breaking our connection.

“You don’t seem malicious to me, Alice. You seem misguided.Lost.”

I smiled at him then, and nodded. “I need to find my way back.”

“I can help you with that,” he whispered as he leaned forward, the scent of his cologne wrapping around my body. Hints of apple and cedar swept through me with a sudden warmth, causing that familiar wetness to flood my core. My nipples hardened and I ached to touch them, to pull and tease, to see how long his composure lasted.

“Are you sure that’s what you want, Doctor? To help me get home.” Breathy, the words seemed to cover and caress him as he shifted in his chair once more.

“What I want is for you to realize that Wonderland is not the only place to consider.”

I smirked. What a textbook thing to say and yet, I was certain he was distracted as he licked his lips and pushed his glasses farther up his nose.
