Darius Fischer

Utilizing every bit of unnatural speed Darius possessed, he sprinted forward, his lifeblood in his hands. He ran at a speed much too quick for that fire spitting sorceress to keep up with, and he was sure to run far enough away that she’d never be able to find them.

It wasn’t until he reached the boardwalk of Miami’s Bayside Marketplace that he came to a stop. Though the Bayside Marketplace was crowded with tourists listening to local bands, Darius made sure to come to a stop far enough away from the crowds, but not so far that they were hidden in complete darkness.

Despite the fact that he was a vampire, Dariushateddarkness. He was envious of his human self for once being able to feel the sun beat against his skin, and he loathed his human self for taking that sun’s warmth for granted.

If only he knew then what the future had in store for him. It had been so long since he last felt the sun on his skin that he had forgotten what it felt like.

Decided that the two of them were a safe distance away from that woman, he set his lifeblood down onto her feet.

My lifeblood. He could hardly believe she was standing in front of him.

She casually brushed dust from her jeans, not seeming concerned in the slightest about the events that had just unfolded.

Gods, the simple movement of her dusting off her jeans nearly sent him over the edge. She was already making him mad, his task already seeming impossible.

For years he tried everything to distract himself from thoughts of her. He did everything to keep his distance from her, believing he would easily lose control in her presence.

Now, soaking in her sultry breath and taking in her defined thighs - enhanced by the tight jeans she wore - and hourglass figure, he realized how right he was to have believed that.

He dreamed of her for years, and now the woman of his dreams wasliterallystanding in front of him. Knowing how much stronger and faster vampires were than sorceresses he knew he could take her right then and there if he wanted to.

He stifled a groan at the thought.

Darius was notorious for controlling his emotions. He always had an extraordinary amount of restraint, no matter the situation.

But tonight was already proving to be one of the greatest tests of his life. It took every ounce of willpower he had to not pounce on top of the exquisite woman standing in front of him.

Control yourself,Darius thought. He had a mission to complete. For Karina.

“Uh… so are you all this strange?” The woman in front of him asked. Hislifebloodasked.

Clenching his fists together in some poor attempt at controlling his desire for her he asked, “Us all?”

“Vam-pie-ares.”She over dramatically pronounced every syllable of that despicable word in an incredibly sarcastic manner, further reminding him of the abomination he was. “I’ve never seen one before,” she continued, “but I heard you’re all practically insane. After meeting you, I can see that definitely rings true.”

“You try sucking the life out of every one of your victims and see if you can retain your sanity.” He felt an unfamiliar need to defend himself, something he never felt the need to do before.

“I simply choose not to kill.”

“No unnatural being lives without killing.” Life in the unnatural world was too brutal to live peacefully. Not only that, but from the looks of it, this girl lived completely alone. She needed to kill to survive in this world. There was no way she didn’t.

She shrugged. “To each their own, yeah?” She then placed her hands on her shapely hips in such a nonchalant way he wondered if she was even slightly disturbed over the fact that she nearly died a few moments ago.

She almost died.

The thought of her near death chilled him. Why didn’t it seem to bother her?

“I’m assuming you cross paths with near death experiences often?” He questioned. If he met her under different circumstances, he’d be sure that she’d never fall into harm’s way.

Unfortunately, the circumstances that brought them together made him the definitionofharm’s way. He was going to bring her right to Artem, and Artem was far from harmless.

Her future didn’t matter to him. It couldn’t matter to him. For Karina’s sake.

Darius decided that as long as he refrained from partaking in any sort of emotional or physical relationship with this woman he wouldn’t be so affected when he turned her over.

Darius lowly groaned when he looked her up and down once more. Gods, how he craved her. The woman of his dreams. In front of him now.
