Could she trust him again?

“Vioi, say something.” His eyes were pleading.

“I…” For the first time in a long time, she didn’t know what to say.

“Hey you two!” Karina called from the front of the plane, the sound of her voice slicing through the intensity that was building between the two of them, ripping them free from a moment that seemed to be frozen in time.

Thanks, Karina.Eva let out a breath of air as she looked in Karina’s direction, despite a wall blocking her view of the vampire. She was just glad she had a reason to look away from Darius. She couldn’t handle the rush of emotions flooding through her. She needed time to settle herself down and think.

“Yeah?” Darius sounded irritated, as if upset the tension was broken. Eva knew he wanted to know how she was going to respond. Now, he may never know what was running through her mind. He knew it.

“Does anyone have any clue where we’re headed?”

“Shit,”Darius let out a low curse. “I… I don’t know. Artem has spies everywhere.”

Eva finally sat up, taking the seat next to Darius. He let her this time. “That and everyone and their mother are looking for me,” she commented.

“Which doesn’t leave us with many options.” Darius’ voice trailed off.

The three of them could find a town that wasn’t riddled with unnatural beings and live a life among humans. Not ideal, but Eva had done it for about a century. This time, she wouldn’t have to be alone. She would have two others with her.

But that would require her to accept Darius’ apology and trust he wouldn’t turn on her. If he one day did, she would have no one. Again.

But then it hit her.

“I have an idea.” Eva remembered the sorceress in her vision. The one who was enacting revenge on Artem. She was the same woman that had asked Eva for her fortune years ago. Because Eva gave that woman her fortune, she knew exactly where the girl currently resided. She was with a pack of werewolves in Pennsylvania. “Pennsylvania. There’s someone I know out there. Sort of. I think we’ll be able to trust her.”

“You sort of know her?”

Eva shrugged. “I gave her a fortune before. A real one.”

“That doesn’t give me much confidence.”

Eva didn’t have all the confidence in the world either. But she knew this woman killed another sorceress. A sorceress who hated other sorceresses had to be trustworthy. In a sense, she was like a sister to Eva. “We don’t have many other options.” They hadnoother options. Karina and Darius had been living under Artem’s rule all their lives and Eva had been living alone. They knew no one.

Darius didn’t seem convinced. “I’m unsure about this.”

Eva placed a pleading hand on his lap. “I have a good feeling about this. I know it’s a lot to ask, but try to trust me on this, will you? I wouldn’t intentionally hurt you or your sister.”

“I know.” He didn’t hesitate to say. He really did trust Eva. “We’ll give it a try, but the second something goes wrong I’m getting you two out of there.”

Eva nodded. “Nothing will go wrong,” she told him, though she wasn’t entirely sure herself. Her uncertainty scared the shit out of her, and not for her own sake but for theirs. She didn’t want to lead Darius or Karina into danger. For the first time in her life she was more concerned for others than herself and that terrified her.

Chapter Thirty-Three

Darius Fischer

Darius refused to leave Eva’s side, sitting next to her while she peacefully slept on the seat beside him. Her gentle snores were a constant reminder that she was safe and alive.

She’s still alive.

Thankfully, she was also free from Artem. So was Karina. So washe.

Though they were all finally safe and far from Artem’s fortress, nothing could calm down Darius’ nerves. He was no fool. His feud with Artem was far from over. In fact, he knew it had only just begun.

Eva yawned beside him, turning over in her seat until she was facing him, sleepy eyes drowsily looking his way. Her dark hair was wildly splayed about her face, no doubt due to tossing and turning in her sleep.

She was absolutely stunning.Imperfectly perfect.
