“Not going to happen. Not when we’re this close.” No way was anyone taking her from this. For the first time since they arrived in Pennsylvania, she finally believed she had a clue to find who they were looking for.

“We’re not giving youachoice.”He was fuming.

“I certainly am,” Karina said before Eva had the chance to respond. “This is the closest we’ve gotten to getting any sort of information. It wouldn’t make sense to walk away now.”

Thank you, Karina,Eva thought. With Karina on Eva’s side, Eva might have a chance at resisting Darius’ attempts to take her away from the pub, and lose a chance at getting the information they needed.

In other words, she wasn’t going anywhere. Not yet.

“Karina…” he spoke lowly, but they both knew he didn’t dare to go against his sister’s wishes.

“Let’s give this a few more minutes before making any rash decisions.” Leave it to Karina to think logically.

Eva was very aware of the fact that she only had a few minutes to get this man to give up information before both Darius and Karina decided to give up on this plan and begin thinking of a new one. When that time came Eva would have no choice but to follow them. If not, she knew she would be dragged out of the bar kicking and screaming. Either way, Eva would lose the opportunity this bar was presenting to her.

Time to get answers. Fast.

She brought her attention back to the man at her side. “Men. Can’t live with them, can’t live without them,” she playfully laughed.

He joined her in laughter. “As a man myself I probably shouldn’t agree with you. Yet here I am, agreeing with you.”

You’re only pretending to agree with me to get in my pants,Eva thought, though she didn’t dare say it. She needed to make this man believe he had a chance with her until he told her everything she needed to know.

The man leaned in to her and whispered, “Are you really looking for werewolves?”

Eva nodded, her hair brushing against his skin when she did. “We are.”

“And do you think it’s a good idea?”

“Why not?”

The man backed away. “I can tell you a million reasons why not. For starters, those weres are too dangerous for a woman like you to get involved with.” Eva tried to suppress the urge to vomit.A woman like me?He hadnoidea.

“Maybe you can keep me safe?” She tried not to cringe when she asked that question, convincing herself she had a game to play.

The man began blushing. “As much as I’d love to have that honor, I don’t think I’d be able to. A while back I saw one with my own eyes. He smacked some guy clear across the room with nothing but his finger.”

He saw one before. It couldn’t be possible, could it? At this point, she was scared to hope.

Holding onto the slight chance that itwaspossible, she asked, “You really saw one?” She acted awestruck.

It was working. The guy was beaming with pride. “Sure did. Saw one the day he snatched a girl out of this bar. That was the last time anyone saw her. Wherever those werewolves took her, she didn’t come back. That’s why it’s best you stay away from them. Can’t have a girl like you going missing. Not right after I found you.” He winked.

Eva heard the slamming of a fist against the bar behind her, followed by a warning hush from Karina.

Ignore it…

“What did the girl look like?” Eva didn’t look back, keeping her focus on the man at her side. She spoke quickly, knowing this conversation needed to be rushed. She was running out of time. Darius was incredibly pissed. She needed to get every bit of information she could before he exploded.

“Never forgot her face.” He scratched the back of his neck. “She was a small, freckled girl with crazy red hair.”

Eva relaxed where she was sitting, a satisfied grin spreading across her face. Eva saw enough of that soon-to-be sorceress to know she was looking for a young freckled girl with blazing red hair.

That meant the girl they were looking for had been taken by a werewolf in this very bar.

Screw plan B. Plan A was back on track.
