Eva loved that he thought so highly of her.

Coming to a stop in front of him, she dug her hands into his pockets, entwining her fingers with his. “Did you know you’re the first friend I’ve ever had?”

He groaned, “You might hate the wordlifeblood, butI hate the wordfriend.”

“Then it’s tossed out the window.” She smiled up at him, but her smile quickly faded. When she looked at his face, she couldn’t help but notice blue beneath his sunken eyes. Now that Kelly had brought it up, it was all Eva could see.

He’s starving. For me.

“Then what word do you plan on using?” He asked.

She couldn’t say what she knew he wanted to hear. That would provide him with too much hope for a future with her, a future that could never be. Right now she only wanted to peel off one of his layers, helping him to begin accepting who he was. He needed to not think of himself as a monster anymore. She was steadfast in her decision to make sure he didn’t.

Glossing over his question she said, “I don’t believe I told you this before, but I forgive you.” He needed to know that.

“I don’t deserve…”

She pressed a finger to his lips. “Stop with theI don’t deservetalk. We’ve both been through shit in life. It’s time for us to get over it. I have an idea. How about we try moving ontogether?”

“I believe I can get on board with that plan.”

Good.

“Then it’s time to take the first step in moving on. It’s time for you to do exactly what I did the other day.”

“And what’s that?”

“It’s time for you to uncover your demons.” She felt so much better after having the opportunity to vent about her past to him on the plane. Maybe she could return the favor.

“Ah.” He bit his lip. “My demons are stories better left untold.” She wasn’t surprised by his lack of enthusiasm. She expected him to say that. It wasn’t easy to open up to another.

No bother, she had a bargaining chip - something he couldn’t resist. “What if I told you I’d let you drink from me after you tell me what’s bothering you?”

His eyes immediately dilated, his fangs seeming to grow in size. There was no way he could resist her proposal. “Truly?”

She raised her right hand. “The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”

“You never cease to surprise me.”

She winked. “I aim to please.”

“And please you do.” His voice became hoarse, hunger consuming his features. She swallowed, a chill sweeping over her body, because he looked at her as if he was ready to devour her in every possible way.

She’d be lying if she said she didn’t want it.

Chapter Forty-Three

Darius Fischer

It took everything in Darius’ power to restrain himself. He wanted nothing more than to pounce on Eva, taking her as his own, at that very moment.

It was no secret that he craved all of Eva.Always.

But now?

Gods, she could make a man fall in love.

The way her loving eyes intently looked at him, as if she was lookingintohim, proved she really cared. Not only that, but she was now freely offering her blood to him. He knew how terrified she was of engaging in that act. Yet she offered, despite her fear. For him.
