Naturally, he was more than prepared to show her how misplaced her fear was. Being bitten by a vampire was agoodthing. Lovers did it in the throes of ecstasy. Often. He’d simply have to show her how erotic the act actually was.

Unfortunately, he was prepared for her to go back on her word after he revealed his demons to her. He wouldn’t blame her if she did. The story of his life wasn’t a happy one.

Yes, it was true that shealsowalked a difficult path.

And yet she stands in front of me, hoping to help me despite needing help herself, the thought crossed his mind.

But she did not yet know the distinct difference in their stories. Evil beings had tormented Eva all her life. Darius, however, wasthe evil being who tormented others.

Would she still be willing to give her blood to him after learning who he truly was?Whathe truly was?

A monster.

Although he feared she would look at him differently after hearing his story, he couldn’t imagine lying to her. She deserved the truth.

He decided that if, by some sort of miracle, she chose to accept him after he exposed the monster within him, nothing would stop him from claiming her fully.

He’d take her in this very room tonight and every day after, which would undoubtedly make him the luckiest man in the world.

“What are you thinking about?” Eva asked, her soft voice breaking him free from his seemingly never-ending contemplation.

“You are quite the inspector, aren’t you?” He was more than a little aware of the way she often looked at him, her nose unknowingly crinkling every time she tried to decipher what was running through his mind. She was extremely observant.

“Talent of the trade. Psychics need to observe their customers’ emotions. I mean, how else would we be able to know whether or not they’re believing our lies?”

“You act as if every psychic is a liar.”

“Well, I certainly am.” She shot him a playful smile.

“Not always.”

“Mostly. You gotta have happy clients. Without happy clients, how can anyone expect to get paid? Honestly, has anyone told you? Cashisking.”

He smirked. Her humor never failed to lighten his mood.

He’d make sure she never had to worry about money again. Artem wasn’t a giving ruler, but that didn’t mean Darius never procured money on his own. Did he often find means of acquiring money during the many missions Artem sent him on?

Absolutely.

Every penny he possessed remained unused, sitting in a Swiss bank. Granted, before today he never had a reason to use it.

He did now.

“So, are you going to tell me what’s bothering you? I know it’s probably difficult to. It was for me when I told you about my past. But it was worth it. I’m happy that I told you what I did.”

He raised a brow. “Are you?”

She nodded. “Having someone to share my insecurities and pain with makes me feel… I suppose it makes me feel like I’m not alone anymore.”

He was relieved to hear that. After their conversation on the plane, the persona she put on around him dramatically altered. She was no longer putting her walls up around him. She no longer shied away from telling him what was on her mind. She trusted him. He wanted to trust her just the same. “You’re not,Vioi.”The beautiful girl in front of him would never be alone again.

She shrugged, but her cheeks turned a shade of red.

“You volunteered to tell me about yourself that day.” He didn’t want to do the same, hoping to hold onto her for as long as he could before giving her a reason to run away. “That’s the last thing I want to do right now.” He didn’t want her to hate him, which she would when she heard what he’d done in his life. They’ve come so far in their relationship. He didn’t want to go backwards.

Today I’ll give her a reason to run away.

When her hands found his, her soft fingers slipping between his eternally calloused ones, his heart skipped a beat. Gods, he didn’t believe he could ever get used to her touch. “You don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to. I’ll still let you… uh, suck on my blood and all.” Her eyes grew soft.
