Again, with lying. The last thing I want Scarlett to do is to get involved with anything concerning Paul Miller, a cocky bastard of a man who left Clearwater University to pursue a political career and was elected City Treasurer of Clearwater. He’s always been egotistical, rubbing in his win, but I was glad to see him go.

Me: I’ll ask her.

Paul: Tell her to really consider it. My daughter has her heart set on commissioning her, and I refuse to disappoint her.

Me: Like I said, I’ll ask her and let you know. Have a good day, Paul.

I turn on thedo not disturbfunction on my phone, only allowing those on my approved list to contact me. Stepping away from my workstation, I stare at the thin slab of clay, imprinted with the perfect outline of Scarlett’s body, now dry and ready to be put in the kiln.

The fragile masterpiece will look incredible glazed and hung on my wall. I’ve split the clay into two pieces, the one of her ass and hands scratching the clay my favorite, but the impression of her delectable tits pressed hard enough to display her nipples gets me hard just looking at it.

I quickly add the art pieces to the kiln plus a couple of bowls I designed for a student auction at the end of the quarter. The fundraiser will go toward an art scholarship, hopefully bringing more people into the department, and encourage the board to agree to add some more classes. I grow weary of teaching algebra and calculus. I hate that I was forced into something so practical. I’d be happy if I never teach most students' least favorite subjects again.

I spot Scarlett heading in the direction of my studio, strolling through the garden. I lost track of time, my thoughts wasted on worrying about Paul instead of focusing on what’s important today. Scarlett should be completing the finishing touches on the window display for Beach Brew. I’d be lying if I wasn’t relieved for that project to be over. I know that Chaz was fired for his psychotic behavior, but I worry about Scarlett so much that I’ll be escorting her the whole day. Leo took yesterday.

I quickly wash my hands and head toward the door, greeting Scarlett with a smile. She automatically steps into my arms and hugs me, inhaling a breath of my scent.

I give in to her need for affection and kiss her neck, working my way up until she eases away to meet my lips. I know everything has been so stressful for her. I’ll do what it takes to keep her focused on the positive things in our life.

“My beautiful fiancée. How was class? Hopefully Joe didn’t bore you to death.” I caress my fingers over her jaw, wanting my scent to linger on her skin.

Scarlett giggles, patting my shoulder. “Never. I could listen to him read all day. I think he knows it because he decided to go off the syllabus and read a section from The Golden Ass. I’m pretty sure it was to tease me and torture all the other students he dislikes. I mean, he read aloud what I can only describe as donkey-shifter porn. Ancient Roman erotica. It was fascinating.”

I tilt my head back and laugh. Jonah always had a unique taste in literature. I’m sure he’ll redesign the curriculum now that he plans to take over as the head of his department.

“Perhaps you can read me some later. Maybe sketch out a scene or two.” I kiss Scarlett again, unable to resist her. “We have to get to the coffeehouse now, don’t we?”

She groans in longing. “Last day. Ms. Sandy needs it finished for the store decorating contest for the Fall Carnival.”

“Which she’ll absolutely win.” I tug Scarlett with me, guiding her to my motorcycle. It’s a beautiful day for a ride along the coast. I could use the adrenaline that comes with the speed and rumble of the engine against my body.

“What is this?” Scarlett asks, staring at my bike in the lone garage stall. I don’t trust my pack mates not to hit it, so I’ve claimed the old carriage house as mine.

“A CVO Road Glide.” I bought the Harley recently, though I’ve been riding since I got my license in my youth. I’ve gone from crotch rockets to cruisers, and I’m excited to share the experience with Scarlett. The way she looks at the Dante’s Red Fade design, biting her lip nervously, I can tell she’s never been near a motorcycle.

“I mean—a motorcycle? You’re not scared of all the crazy drivers out here?” Scarlett hugs her arms over her chest. “Of tipping? Road rash if you fall?”

My brows pinch together. “Twenty-one turning...what, fifty?” I tease, giving her a little shake. “If you’re too nervous, I’ll grab Leo’s keys.”

Scarlett huffs a breath, picking up on my dare. “I’m not nervous...I’m terrified...and curious. You promise not to do anything insane? Where’s my jacket? Helmet?”

I raise my eyebrows and motion toward my gear hanging on the rack. “I’ll pick you up some of your own stuff tonight. This will have to do for now. I can’t promise there won’t be assholes on the road, but I can promise I’m a defensive rider. We’ll take the back way.”

She shudders, shaking out her hands with her nerves. “No speeding.”

I chuckle. “Come on, Lettie. Let’s ride.”

If Scarlett holds me any tighter, we might merge together as one entity. Her squeals sound over the rumble of my motorcycle every time I shift gears and pick up speed until we reach the stretch of road along the beach. I slow down, catching the scent of the ocean air drift into my full-faced helmet. I wish Scarlett didn’t have to put the finishing touches on her window paintings so I could just pull over and carry her into the water. It might be a bit cold, but in this moment, I need some cooling off. I constantly feel on the verge of either yearning to claim her or wanting to burn the world down in her honor.

The fact that she stopped using her suppressant cream, her omega scent now inviting me to her body, just intensifies my deep-seated nature. I’m going into rut because she’s going into preheat. It won’t be long until we aren’t able to resist each other.

It’s not often that an omega walks pregnant down the aisle, but the thought sounds incredibly sexy to me. Seeing her swollen with life in a wedding dress. Knowing that she’ll bring a baby into our family.

Damn.

What a beautiful life.

I focus my attention back on the street, wanting to kick myself for allowing my thoughts to consume me. Thankfully, the road is desolate this early and during the off-season. It’ll pick up tomorrow with the kickoff of Halloween festivities.
