Jonah drags himself away from me, leaving me in the bathroom as he heads through his suite to answer. I can’t resist the heat of the shower, my body growing colder than I like, and I step inside and take the initiative to wash myself despite Jonah’s desire to do it for me.

“Lettie, I’m so sorry. I should’ve locked the door. I should’ve paid better attention. I wasn’t expecting Paul to just barge into my studio.” Dominic doesn’t hesitate entering the bathroom and purses his lips together. “But that’s not the strange part. He wasn’t looking for me. He was there for you. He got your address from Ms. Sandy and said that she told you to expect him. That you’ve been in contact. Apparently, he was considering hiring you for a job?”

I rack my brain, trying to pinpoint the name. And then I realize who it is. The man whose daughter is getting married and the guy I sent my portfolio to. But feels like forever ago. I had forgotten about him completely.

I open and close my mouth, unsure of what to say. Something feels utterly wrong, and it’s not just the fact that some stranger saw me with Dominic. It’s more. “He couldn’t have gotten my address from Ms. Sandy. She only has me down at the dorm.”

Jonah growls, fisting his hands. “Are you sure?”

I thrash my head up and down. “Yes, I’m sure.”

Turning to Dominic, Jonah puffs a breath. “Finish helping Scarlett get cleaned up. I need to make some phone calls. We need a pack meeting.”

“What’s up, Joe? What is it?” Dominic asks.

Jonah clenches his jaw. “Someone knows. Someone fucking knows.”

“Calm down. You don’t know that.” Dominic tries to touch Jonah’s shoulder.

He backs up out of the way. “I do fucking know. It’s that asshole Chaz. I know it. I knew he wasn’t going to just let shit go. He’s coming after us now. He’s crazy and setting us up.”

Dominic rubs the back of his neck. “And we’ll handle it. Just like we always have before. But you need to think rationally.”

Jonah growls. “Ezra said he’s unpredictable. He commented on Scarlett’s scent as an omega, but he couldn’t possibly know that without having more on us. He’s a beta. There’s more to it. Now, get her dressed. We need to be prepared. I’m not going to let a fucking beta ruin our lives and careers. That fucker needs to go down.”

Paul:Ican’tapologizeenough for my unexpected visit. I had no idea Scarlett was a part of your pack.

Anger rushes through me at the memory. Paul is lucky that his murder isn’t worth losing me a lifetime with Scarlett or else he’d already be dead. There is no amount of apologizing that will ever fix what my beautiful omega went through. His actions ruined a safe space for us. It destroyed our moment of consummating our love.

I hate him for it.

Paul: When I met her at the coffeehouse, I assumed she was a beta.

That might be true, but his other message is full of shit. He claims he was there to meet Scarlett, but he’d have to be an idiot not to put things together, considering how long we’ve lived in the Clearwater Manor.

Me: Cut the bullshit. I’ve contacted Beach Brew and you never reached out to Sandy. What do you want, Paul?

Paul: It was another employee. A young man. He’s friends with Scarlett.

Again, another fucking lie.

Me: Do you think I’m an idiot? That employee is no friend of Scarlett. He’s been harassing and stalking her. What does he have over you?

Paul: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Me: You really want to play this game? You’re too damn high up in Pack Clearwater to mess with people like him unless he has something on you.

I growl and slam my phone down. It’s pointless trying to argue with him over text, which means I need to confront him in person. I was far too distressed over Scarlett to think things through. I just wanted him gone.

My phone buzzes again with another text, and I can’t resist reading it.

Paul: Come on. Let’s move past this. It was an honest mistake. If you’re able to, I want to offer Scarlett a job painting the windows at the resort for Bethany’s upcoming wedding. It is a great opportunity, considering who will be in attendance. Consider it my apology for this debacle.
