Elias won’t be the only one I drive to Hell now. Cassius is next. He will regret ever stealing my soul from me.

Chapter 13

CASSIUS

Satanic Spawn

I WATCH RAVEN sleep on the pile of blankets in the middle of the barely furnished apartment. I must wait at least a day before relocating us somewhere Hell can’t find. The devils will be hunting every single spot in all of the world for her. If I try to leave before more time passes, I’m sure one of them will find me. Right now, I have to focus all my energy on blocking the entire universe out.

I have to say, Raven’s fight was quite impressive. I had no idea that she could summon divine light. It was enthralling, seeing her glow even brighter. It’s such a gift to Heaven that she carries angelic light inside her on a greater level than being angel-kissed. She is truly blessed by the Higher Power.

I feel blessed for succeeding in getting her safely away from Hell.

This war can finally be over. I just know it.

The soul growing inside her is brand new and will change everything. It is born from the purest light and will serve Heaven accordingly. I am just so thankful to the Higher Power for giving me access to Hell through this light. And I will protect Raven and the new soul with everything in me. I will not let them down. It is one of the most brilliant miracles I’ve ever experienced, and I can’t help falling to my knees and pressing my palms together in prayer.

“Your Almighty Grace, thank you for hearing my prayers and giving me the strength to fight the darkness and bring the light of Raven home.” My soft voice swirls through the room, but I can’t keep the words to myself. I need to say them out loud.

As if Raven hears my prayer, or maybe feels it, her body lights again with angelic power. A smile crosses my face, and I can’t stop the wayward tear from splashing on my cheek. She is the most beautiful soul I have ever seen, and I can finally admit it now that I know she won’t destroy everything we’ve fought for and everything we’ve worked hard to maintain in the name of Heaven.

Crawling on my knees, I close the space to Raven, basking in her glow. I bow my head more and clutch my fingers together.

“Your Grace, please give me the strength to see this through. Please help guide me down this treacherous path as I face the darkest entities in the universe. I put all of my faith in you. You have never let me down, and I vow to never let you down. I will not fail. Heaven will rise and keep Hell at bay. I promise you. Please, just help me show Raven everything she needs to see to agree with me.” Another tear splashes on my cheek, and I close my eyes tighter, willing with everything in me to channel even an ounce of Heaven into this empty apartment.

“You fucking creep!” Raven swings her palm and smacks me across the face before I can even move or react to her words. “I will rip every single one of your fucking feathers off your back.”

I try to move out of her way, but Raven grabs my shirt and yanks me to her. I catch myself on my palm, trying my best not to squish her under my weight, and the little abomination swings her leg up around my side and manages to flip me off her and get on top of me.

Jabbing her fist, she sucker punches me in the nose. Pain swells in my face, and I grind my teeth. She is as strong as a devil and just as feisty, and it takes me grabbing her wrist and squeezing hard to get her to stop trying to pummel me.

“You bastard! Fuck! Help!” Her scream rips through the room, the loud pitch enough to make me wince. No one can hear her through my protective shield, but it doesn’t stop her from trying.

“Settle down, Raven. I’m not going to hurt you. You are safe. Here, let me help you. Look into my eyes and take a breath.” I flare my nostrils and try to capture her with my gaze, hoping my heavenly light steals away her fear of me. I never intended for her to be afraid of me, but the devils have done a number on her. They have solidified it in her very soul to be frightened of Heaven as if we are the bad guys.

Fuck them. Fucking-fuck. If I could face Lucifer this instant, I would stab him through the damn throat. I can’t believe that Raven trusts him over me. It takes me a moment to quiet the profanity roaring through my head.

“Go to Hell, Cass-hole,” Raven says, breaking one of her hands free again. She reaches between us and snatches my groin, squeezing tight enough that I have to throw her off me. I’m not invincible on the mortal plane. The last thing I need is for her to incapacitate me by hurting the weakest part of this human-like, male form. I fucking hate having balls.

“You know I’ve already been there, and I would prefer not to go back. I don’t know why you like that disgusting, dark place. You are far too light and pure to have such a twisted desire.” I move away from her before she tries to launch herself at me again. Pushing my hands to the floor, I stand up and cross the room, ensuring a dozen feet of space between us. “Are you hungry? Do you have to go to the bathroom? Does anything hurt?” I decide to ask her questions about what she might need instead of focusing on what she wants. I hope it’s enough to distract her. I think that if I could just change her focus and get her to listen, she might see reason.

Miracles do happen.

“Let me go. You can’t keep me here. The devils will find me,” Raven says, ignoring all of my questions.

I can play her game too. Shifting my eyes, I stare at the door for a second, trying to gather my thoughts. “I can make you a sandwich while you take care of your other mortal needs. The bathroom is through that door over there. It’s been a while since you’ve relieved your bladder—”

Hellfire spews from Raven’s palms, and I barely have time to fly out of the way as she scorches the spot I was standing. Holy Heaven. Not only can she summon angelic light, but she can also tap into Hell. What is going on? I don’t understand.

Raven tries to hit me with hellfire again, not giving me a chance to ask for guidance.

“The only thing I want right now is to pluck every single one of your feathers from your wings. After that, I will cut off your balls and shove them down your throat.” Raven bares her teeth with her anger, her usual vivid blue-green eyes now flashing with firelight.

I automatically hide my wings from her and cup my hands over my groin protectively. As much as I want to abandon her in this room, I can’t leave. I need to ensure that the shield stays in place. If it even cracks a millimeter, the devils could find her. If that happens, I will have to let them take her. I can’t fight against them alone.

“What have my balls ever done to you? Or my wings? I don’t understand why you have such anger and want to hurt my body.” I stroll backward as Raven looks for an opening to attack me.

“I want to hurt your body because it would hurt you, you fucker. What you’re doing to me is ruining my life. You fucking kidnapped me. You’re trying to keep me from the father of one of my babies.” Raven narrows her eyes at my groin, and the way she looks as if she will destroy it awakens something dark inside me.
